Go Hot Air Ballooning Over The Alps
The town of Château dOex has been called the hot air ballooning capital of the world. If youve ever dreamed of gliding over the tops of majestic snow-covered mountains in a basket hanging from a balloon, this is the place to do it. Its a small town in the canton of Vaud, on the opposite side of Lake Geneva from Geneva itself.
Every year in January, Château dOex plays host to the International Hot-Air Balloon Festival, which lasts for nine days. Up to 100 balloon enthusiasts congregate in a field on the edge of the town, fill up their balloons with air heated by propane, and soar up into the skies.
The best time to arrange a flight is obviously during the festival, but if you cant make it here in January, a company called Ballons Château dOex does offer flights throughout the year. Their standard flight takes about one hour and costs SwF 390. Switzerlands Alpine scenery is always spectacular, but when viewed from above its truly breathtaking, especially in the winter when everything is blanketed in snow.

Cruise Down The River Rhine
One of my favourite things to do in Switzerland was a morning spent cruising down the famous River Rhine. We hopped on board in the town of Schaffhaussen in Switzerland and watching in awe as the boat manoeuvred its way down the river with Switzerland to one side and Germany to the other. Was sort of like being in two countries at once.
We passed some stunning little villages, camp sites and absolutely massive mansions on either side of the river and it was by far one of the most relaxing mornings we had.
As most of the boats rides in Switzerland are included in your Swiss Travel Pass, we just hopped off the train and onto the boat with our giant backpacks and took a sort of two-hour detour down the river then re-joined the train further down the route.
Learn How To Whip Up A Fondue
Whether you knew it or not, Switzerland is the home of fondue. And who can say no to dipping stuff into the gooey molten goodness that is melted cheese? Not many people. So for one of the best things you could do in Geneva, instead of buying some throwaway souvenir, why not learn how to actually construct a fondue feast for yourself?
Not something that should be confined to the 1980s, or whenever it was that fondue became popular outside of Switzerland, the act of melting cheese and dipping stuff into it is something that should be around forever and ever. Keep the legacy alive with a cooking class at Edelweiss where you can learn to make it in a traditional Swiss restaurant, to name just place to learn this ancient art.

Go Paragliding In Lauterbrunnen
Many travelers to Lauterbrunnen snap a picture of the iconic U-shaped valley from the ground and continue on their way, unaware that the best views of the valley come from above. Lauterbrunnen is world-renowned for paragliding, an activity ideal for both adrenaline junkies and timid adventurers alike. Strapped to a harness and an experienced guide, participants simply step off a ledge on the mountainside , the wind catches the sail and theyre off gliding through the valley. From this height, participants are treated to a closer, more intimate view of the valley walls, numerous waterfalls that arent visible from the ground and its a seriously fun time.
Tours typically last 20 minutes and end on the valley floor, a short walk from the cable car that goes back up to mountainside towns like Murren and Gimmelwald. To make a whole afternoon out of it, stay at the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald and hike to the launch point via the North Face hiking trail. Remember to wear comfortable clothing, dont bring anything valuable and buy the GoPro footage afterwards!

Dadaism was an exciting art movement that began in 1916 in Zurich. You can visit the exact spot it was created by Hugo Ball and Emmy Hennings by popping into Cabaret Voltaire, just a short walk from the Zurich Main Station.
When it first started out, the concept of Dadaism was to question the present through innovative forms of art, including painting, dance, literature, and music. Visit during the day, and youll find nothing more than a historical hall where you can read about the history of the art movement. But visit after dark, and youll find the space transformed into a lively bar where you can sip beer, wine, schnapps, and absinthe until the early hours.
