See Bats Spiral Out Of The Waugh Bridge

MontroseWhen the Waugh Bridge was built, no one realized it was the perfect structure to host a whole bunch of Mexican free-tailed bats. Well, apparently it was, because locals started noticing a bat colony around 99. Before Hurricane Harvey and 2021s devastating ice storm, the bridge sheltered about 300,000 of the little guys, and though some sadly didnt make it, a bulk of the colony remains intact. Today, youll find the bats hanging tight until they spiral out from the bridges crevices on warm nights around sunset. Head to the viewing platform and you may just catch a bat show, which never fails to both fascinate and creep the hell out of anyone you bring along.

Go See The Mapparium At The Mary Baker Eddy Library

The Top Five Things to See in Houston

If youre a travel nerd, a map nerd, a history nerd, a geography nerd, or all of the above, definitely make time to visit the Mapparium when youre sightseeing in Boston.

The Mapparium is an odd exhibit: its a gorgeous stained glass globe, designed to show all of the continents in their true proportions, unlike typical maps and you view this globe by standing on a bridge inside of it.

The geographical map is frozen in time to when the Mapparium was created in 1935: the number of countries that have changed names and/or borders in that time is incredible, and Jeremy and I had a blast picking out places we had been that had changed in that last 80+ years.

Truthfully, we werent sure whether or not this visit would be worth the time, but it far exceeded expectations.

Sadly, they dont allow photos insideall the more reason to visit and see it for yourself!
