Located in Hot Springs State Park, Star Plunge Water Park is a year-round attraction that offers a variety of indoor and outdoor hot and cold pools. The pools are naturally heated, and some have water or air jets.
One of the other highlights of the water park is the “Vapor Cave”, a naturally created sauna cut into the side of the mountain and heated by hot mineral water. How Much Time Should I Spend In Jackson
While one day is enough for Jackson town itself, we recommend planning at least a week in the area. This will allow you to see the best of the Jackson Hole, visit Grand Teton National Park, and explore Yellowstone National Park. As an absolute minimum, plan 4 days here: one for Jackson, one for Grand Teton, one for Yellowstone, and one day for some of the fun outdoor activities that the area has to offer.
Fossil Butte National Monument
Millions of years ago, three great lakes covered much of what is now a high desert in the southwest corner of Wyoming. The smallest body of water known today as Fossil Lake has proved to be a treasure trove of fossilized fish, animals and plants. Located around 15 miles west of the City of Kemmerer, the Fossil Butte National Monument features a butte that rises 1,000 feet above the ancient lake bed.
Fossils are found all over the butte, and during the summer, visitors can join paleontologists to dig for prehistoric remains. The Monuments visitor center displays more than 300 fossils found in the region.

In the company of a professional guide and experienced naturalist, you will be taken across the refuge to get a closer look at the elk that winter there.

In addition to that, its a top-rated attraction with a 5-star rating and tons of verified positive reviews, and it includes transfers to and from Jackson.
This astonishing refuge is home to the largest migratory elk herd in North America and is frequented by a variety of other wildlife!

Take A Scenic Drive To Yellowstone
While its true that the vast majority of Yellowstone National Park is closed to the public during the month of November, the north entrance of the park and the road between Gardiner and Cooke City, Montana, remain open. Youll have access to the Mammoth Hot Springs area and all of the nearby trails, plus you might be able to spot bison, bears, wolves, and other wildlife as you take the scenic drive. Driving to Yellowstone is quite a trip from Jackson, taking at least 5 6 hours, but youll pass through breathtaking scenery and national forest on your way through Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.
Hot Air Balloon Or Helicopter Flight
If you are looking for something really special to do in Jackson Hole, then you may want to consider air tours. Its an amazing way to experience the beauty of the Jackson Hole area and the Grand Teton National Park from above!
You can opt for a sunrise hot air balloon tour or for a private helicopter tour. Helicopter travels faster, covers bigger distances, and also flies over the mountains. Whereas hot air balloon will cover smaller distances and youll be able to enjoy the scenery slower and sometimes you can even see wildlife from above.
While very different, both these experiences are absolutely unique and you really cant go wrong with either of them! And since these tours take just about an hour, its very easy to fit them into any itinerary when visiting Jackson Hole.

Snow-capped mountains. Alpine forests. Turquoise hot springs. Horse-drawn sleighs. The snowy, remote valley of Jackson Hole, Wyoming sits at the base of Grand Teton National Park, with Yellowstone National Park neighboring just an hour to the north. Visiting Jackson Hole in the winter is like stepping into a mountain-filled snow globe, complete with cozy lodges, awe-inspiring wildlife, and some of the worlds best skiing and winter sports. Snowboarding, ice skating, and sleigh riding in the clear, crisp air of Grand Tetons yes, please!
But Jackson Hole is more than just a magical mountain ski town its also filled with majestic elk, wildlife-inspired art, and craft breweries, for instance. We tapped an insider to give us the scoop on Jackson Hole in the winter. Take it away, Emily!
First things first Jackson, or Jackson Hole? You may have been asking yourself this question, and if so, youre not alone. Jackson Hole refers to the valley in which the town of Jackson sits. Early settlers used the word Hole to refer to a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides.
Fort Laramie National Historic Site
Once a private fur-trading post, Fort Laramie, the first garrisoned post in Wyoming, became an important outpost serving pioneers emigrating west on the Mormon, Oregon, and California Trails. The area was also an important military post during the Plains Indian Wars. In 1938, President Roosevelt proclaimed the 214 acres of military reservation land a national monument. Today, the National Park Service manages the site.
Your first stop should be the visitor center, where a short audio-visual presentation tells the story of the fort’s history. Artifacts such as uniforms and weapons are also on display here.
After the visitor center, a walking tour of the restored buildings brings the fort’s fascinating history to life. See how the troops lived and ate by touring the barracks, and you can also visit the officers’ quarters, post office, general store, and medical quarters, among other restored buildings. As you wander around the site, friendly volunteers in period costume help recreate the scene.
Most visitors take a self-guided tour, but interpretive talks are offered during the summer months. If you’re looking for a way to keep the kids entertained, they can sign up for an educational scavenger hunt.

Ice Skate Under Twinkling Lights
Ice skating is one of those things I really wish I could do well. Alas, I cant, but its still tons of fun. There are a number of different places to skate in Jackson, including right downtown. You can rent skates in Town Square and carve it up between the antler arches.
Bonus: This rink is right across the street from the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, where you can saddle up for a drink after skating your heart out.
The other option is the Village Rink on the Commons in Teton Village. Home to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Village is pretty busy in the winter, and does not disappoint with winter festivities.
You can rent skates and hop on the rink under twinkling lights. Theres even a fire pit nearby for when you need to warm up, and snow castles and sculptures to explore. Heck, even if you dont skate, come check out this festive vibe the snow castles are fun for adults, too.
After your skate, there are plenty of places nearby to grab a hot cocoa or fun cocktail. The Mangy Moose is a classic, and often has live music. Plus, theres an actualmoose hanging from the ceiling. You cant get much more Jackson Hole than that.
When Should I Visit Jackson Hole In The Winter
Although winter temperatures last from October until April, a trip in January, February, or March will allow you to take full advantage of reliable snow and winter activities.
By traveling between , youll be avoiding Jacksons main tourist seasons in summer. The winter tourist season begins around the holidays in December and tapers off in March or early April. And while both summer and winter are fantastic times to visit, winter is definitely the quieter option.
But off season means even fewer crowds and lower prices. That said, there are certain months which have distinct advantages. October and November are cold and often snowy, but without the festivity that true winter brings. Youll get the best Jackson Hole in the winter experience in
