Tick Off The Top Off The Rock

The Top things to do in Buffalo, NY | Buffalo, NY

When people refer to Top of the Rock , they are referring to the observation deck at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. This colossal skyscraper has one of New Yorks most popular viewing platforms on the 70th floor. From here, you can see just how massive Central Park is, spread like a big green picnic blanket below the tower. Plus, youll actually get the Empire State building in your viewfinder . Like the Empire State Building, the most popular time to visit Top of the Rock is at sunset, when the light is best for photographs.

On ground level, the Rockefeller Center comes into its own in the holiday season, when you can see the famous Radio City Rockettes chorus line, inhale the evergreen scent from one of New Yorks largest Christmas trees, and slip over the citys most famous skating rink.

Top tip:

Sunset is the most popular time to visit the Top of the Rock. Expect to pay a $10 surcharge if you book one of the coveted sundowner slots.

When you meet the Statue of Liberty, remember to say Bonjour shes French, built by famous French engineer Gustav Eiffel.

Head To The American Museum Of Natural History

In NYC with children or have an extra day to burn? NYCs Natural History Museum is one of the premier collection of dinosaur bones out there. Why?

They were one of the first museums to aggressively go after dinosaur remains in the US, which were originally discovered in the UK, but became wildly abundant in the US.

It is most definitely more than just dinosaurs as well which is why it is even exciting to visit this museum even if you dont have kids. They have exhibits on just about everything you could imagine!

Eat A Red Velvet Cake Black & White Cookie And/or Ny Cheesecake

Neither of these dishes is native to NYC, but both have gone pro in this most metropolitan of cities. Where do you go to try one or ideally both of these dishes? Lilis Bake Shop on 7th & 53rd. We also like Venieros, City Cakes, and Buttercup Bake Shop.

Their specialty is the Dirty Cheesecake which is delicious, but you could cross cheesecake, red velvet, and the famous black & white cookie off your list here. D-LISH!

The Ultimate Guide Of Things To Do In Buffalo Ny

I dont really talk about where I grew up and called home for 20-something years, and as it becomes more and more popular to people other than me and my immediate friends and family, Im realizing that needs to end. When, Expedia.com asked me to put together a guide to a city I know and love it was a no-brainer to tell you all about the best things to do in Buffalo, NY.

Im originally from a small town just outside Rochester, NY. Its about 7 hours from NYC and 3ish hours from Toronto. Im going to ease you into this though, and talk about Rochesters big cousin, Buffalo, first. There are so many things to do in Buffalo besides just the obvious Niagara Falls, this may be lengthy, shocking I know!

In my college years, we used to meet my college friends in Buffalo to bop across the border to Canada to go out for the night as the drinking age was 19 in Canada and it was 21 in NY. Resourceful, I know!

Buffalo is also the home of a few celebs that you may know, Chad Michael Murray grew up in a burb of Buffalo, one of my favorite bands of all time, The Goo Goo Dolls are from Buffalo. The ever infamous movie, Bruce Almighty is actually set in Buffalo!

Have I won you over yet? No?

What if I tell you it is the home of the CHICKEN WING? Anchor Bar, in Buffalo, claims to have invented the chicken wing in its non-breaded, hot sauce covered form in 1964 and every Buffalonian out there will vouch for that claim.

Take A Tour Of The Met

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was originally opened in 1870, but not in the location you see today which is known by few. Nine years later the current building was opened and has been its home ever since, but like any home it has been subject to renovations, additions, and improvements for this growing family of art!

The collection is one of the greatest on Earth which is why you absolutely cannot miss it. We recommend you take a tour of the MET since it will elevate your experience. Local guides in NYC are passionate and will save you from a less than awesome experience where you stare and wonder what you are looking at.

Also, check out our articles on what to see at the MET. They are super-comprehensive but not meant to replace a tour. I find when I do background research on a museum it becomes even more interesting when I actually explore with a guide.

    Where To Drink In Buffalo

7 Fun Things to do in BUFFALO, NY This Winter

Buffalo is full of good breweries, but this is one of my favorites. It has a few different levels and is conveniently located near most of the major event centers in downtown Buffalo. The food is decent and the drinks are even better!

This is an eating and drinking stop that suits all palates. Try a Beef on Wick, a Buffalo specialty that locals rarely eat with thin-sliced roast beef on a kimmelweck roll! Lol Seriously, I lived in this region for years and years and had never heard of it until recently. The restaurant turns into a happening bar at night thats a perfect stop on a Elmwood Village bar crawl. I really dont think a stop to Buffalo is complete without a visit to Coles. Allen Street Hardware

Nestled in the hip and trendy Allentown neighborhood, Allen Street Hardware was a, you guessed it, the hardware store for almost a century. Its a yummy restaurant during the day and transforms into a happening bar scene at night. Live music is often heard here and dancing is definitely had!

If youre looking for something a bit more laid back and chill, this may be your spot! Its a bit more bohemian and alternative, but still a great night out and they even have vinyl Mondays playing throwback classics all night long!

Top Tourist Attractions In New York City

Last updated on September 26, 2021 in New York, Tours

The largest and most populated city in the USA, New York City is often called the city that never sleeps because it is constantly buzzing with activity. Full of arts, culture, endless restaurants and a night sky where the stars are replaced by bright skyscrapers, New York is a magical place. Loud, boisterous and impatient, Manhattan especially, is a high energy place. Events dont just happen here, they happen with a bang.

With so much to see and do in the city, it can be overwhelming to a New York novice. This comprehensive list outlines the top tourist attractions in New York City that travelers wont find anywhere else. From Broadway to One World Trade Center, weve got them all here.

Contemplate At The National September 11 Memorial & Museum

It was always going to be difficult for New York to make a memorial to the victims and heroes of 9/11. The scale of the tragedy and the enormous space left by the fallen Twin Towers of the World Trade Center seemed impossible to fill. But now the footprints of the two towers have been turned into two sunken pools continuously filling with cascades of water. The Reflecting Absence memorial as its known is a fitting, large-scale tribute.

Below this simple, but monolithic pair of monuments youll find the National September 11 Museum set in the foundations of the original Twin Towers. Tissue stations are provided and often needed around the exhibits, which include harrowing burnt-out artefacts and melted equipment from brave first-responders. Complete your tour of the area, and end with a ray of hope by ascending to the observation deck of the One World Trade Center. The tallest building in New York City has popular skyline views.

    Top tip:

This isnt the only place you can contemplate the events of 9/11. The 9/11 Tribute Museum is five minutes south and run by the September 11th Families’ Association. It offers powerful guided tours led by people who were personally affected by the events.

    • Central Park

A big city needs a big park: Central Park is 834 acres, and features lakes, wandering walkways and pretty trees, whatever the season. In spring look out for blossoming trees on the avenues, ducklings on the lakes, and tulips opening in Shakespeares garden.

The Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum

Things To Do In Buffalo, NY

If theres one way to really get a grasp of how much a culture can change in a relatively short amount of time, its through transportation.

The advent of travel via horses, boats, trains, planes, and cars, has had an undeniable effect on the world.

Visiting the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum is one of the best things to do in Buffalo for understanding how important transportation evolution is.

Exhibits at this New York museum include important pieces of transportation history, including the 1909 Thomas Flyer 6-40 Flyabout and The 1919 Pierce Arrow Intercity Bus.

While many of these designs are antiquated, they are beautiful in how well they capture history.

Another one of the most beautiful and amazing sights in at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum is the Frank Lloyd Wright Filling Station.

Wright had the idea for a very cutting-edge filling station, which including a second story for customers to relax during fillings.

While it never came to fruition, this museum honors Wrights vision by featuring a replica of what he had planned.
