At night its a hotspot for drinks and dinner at The Katharine Brasserie and Bar.
This hotel rocks and we highly recommend staying overnight. If youre not staying overnight we recommend you rethink that choice!
Staying there was a delight and the perfect excuse to extend our time in Winston-Salem, and maximize experiencing all the fun things to do in the city. Besides, whats better than enjoying food and a few cocktails and only having to press an elevator button to get to your room afterwards?

Frank L Horton Museum Center Winston

This center contains the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, known locally as MESDA, a relatively new addition to Winston-Salem’s historic area. Once a grocery store, the building underwent renovations in the mid 1990s to serve its new main purpose as a museum. The museum itself is named after Frank Horton, a prolific decorative arts researcher.
MESDA has a series of exhibits and collections and also includes auditorium space for meetings and special events. Along with MESDA, the center contains a research area and several shops. If you are wondering what to see in Winston-Salem on a rainy day, visit this unique attraction.

If you love a good English-style afternoon tea as I do, the gorgeous Flour Box Tea Room inside the historic 1907 Shaffner House will blow you away. There are several tea rooms to choose from, and your food and tea are served on exquisite pieces of china. There is a full menu to choose from, or you can have Full Tea, a three-tiered tea experience with finger sandwiches, sweet and savory scones, and mini-desserts.
Visit Bethabara Historic District
Less than 10 miles away is a Moravian settlement known as Bethabara Historic District. First settled in 1753, Bethabara was meant to be a temporary home while the Moravians looked for a more suitable permanent location, which ultimately became Old Salem.
The 183-acre park and wildlife preserve has the restored Gemeinhaus , a couple of buildings, and the excavated foundations of the original settlement along with the restored colonial gardens for which Bethabara was well-known. A visitors center provides more information about the Moravian settlers, and tours are available.

Revel In The History Of Its Moravian Settlers
Salems origins can be traced to early Moravian settlers who more than 250 years ago left their Eastern European homes to farm the fertile land of central North Carolina.
The religious immigrants brought with them many skills including furniture making and tanning and made their homethe city they dubbed Salemon an area of 100,000 acres called the Wachovia Tract.

Well-informed interpreters in traditional garb provide historical information in all the trade shops. In the Moravian Single Brothers House, be sure to see a working organ built in 1758. Hike In Hanging Rock State Park
Just 30 miles from the city is beautiful Hanging Rock State Park in the Sauratown Mountain Range. Visitors can boat, swim, rock climb, and hike to their hearts content. Adventure seekers will like Moores Knob, the highest point in the Sauratown Mountains, where they can climb Moores Wall.
Spending time by the lake is more our speed, and we love hiking to the parks stunning waterfalls. For a rustic getaway, consider staying in a cabin near the parks edge.

Peppercorn Theatre At Kaleideum Downtown
This non-profit theater seeks to showcase the talents of up-and-coming performance artists in the Winston-Salem area. Through Peppercorn’s productions, theater organizers hope to urge local children to use their creativity, embrace their natural sense of adventure, and develop leadership skills.

See The Old Shell Station
On the south end of town, youll find the last giant yellow clamshell Shell Oil station in the country. Once conceived as a way to advertise and build awareness of the Shell brand, eight such stations were built in the area in the 1930s. The one on the corner of the Peachtree Street and East Sprague Street is the last one standing.
The Shell station no longer operates as a gas station but is a monument to itself, featuring photos and articles about its building and other Shell memorabilia. Its a great stop for a photo op and a quick trip back in history.
