Soak In Culture At Some Art Museums

I SPENT $200 AT ELITE WILLIAMSBURG IN BROOKLYN *food review* | NEW YORK | MY INTROVERT LIFE

There are a few art museums found in Williamsburg to stroll through. If you love art and culture, then these museums should be added to your Williamsburg itinerary. One of these art centers is the Muscarelle Museum of Art located at the College of William & Mary. This museum has work by Georgia OKeeffe, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse among others.

Another museum is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum. This museum holds a diverse collection of art in many forms. There are paintings, sculptures, fabrics, and art made from everyday objects. Along with older work, there are contemporary pieces as well.

The DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum is another place to visit if you like antiques. Here you will find a collection of furniture, ceramics, glass, prints, paintings, old toys, textiles, and more. This is a great way to see how people from the 17th to the 19th centuries lived.

Jamestown Glasshouse Williamsburg Virginia

The Jamestown Glasshouse is one of the main attractions from America’s first colony. In the early days of Jamestown, officials believed that glassmaking could be a profitable venture. Ultimately, it didn’t end up being the right commodity for Jamestown’s economic survival, but the glasshouse where most of the glassmaking process took place still stands.

Today, visitors can watch as glassmakers create objects using the same techniques from more than 400 years ago. Guests can also view the original furnaces that early colonists used for their glasswork. Lastly, the glasshouse has its own gift shop that sells original pieces of glass artwork.

One of the most important American religious sites is the Bruton Parish Episcopal Church.

This Williamsburg church was the first in the state to have a cruciform shape.

It was also attended by the likes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Today, it has been wonderfully restored and is one of the biggest points of interest in Colonial Williamsburg.

Visit The Historic Wren Building

Found on the campus of the College of William & Mary, the Wren Building dates back to the early 1700s. It was originally initially finished in 1700, but when a fire destroyed it in 1705, it was rebuilt in 1716. Interestingly, it is the oldest surviving college building in the United States. It is even still in use by students and many events take place here throughout the year.

Throughout its long history, it has been used as both an academic and government building. During the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars it was used as a makeshift hospital. Like many of the old buildings in Williamsburg, the Wren Building is known to be haunted. Ghosts have been seen and heard wandering these halls.

Aside from its use as an academic facility, the Wren Building served as the temporary government headquarters for Williamsburg from 1700 to 1704. A fire destroyed the Wren Building in 1705, but the local government rebuilt it in 1716.

After enduring a total of three fires, the Wren Building achieved its current title as the oldest college building still standing in the United States. Now the Wren Building houses classrooms as well as faculty offices.

Can you even call it a girls weekend if theres no shopping? Located right beside the Colonial Williamsburg historic area, this retail village has over 40 outlets in which you can browse or buy. What I liked most about this area was the lack of big brands or big box retailers it made the shopping experience feel quaint and special! Do A Sunset Cruise On The Jamestown Discovery

What to Do in NYC #1: Williamsburg, Broadway, and West Village Brunch | Weekend Adventure

With its position right on the water, a boat ride is must during your weekend in greater Williamsburg. Kate and I topped off a long day of exploring with a sunset cruise on the Jamestown Discovery and I have to say it was exquisite from beginning to end. Not only were our captain and fellow passengers lovely , we were gifted by the most breathtaking sunset Ive seen all year. If that werent enough, the captain had the BEST mix-tape of 80s contemporary music, so we were serenaded by the sweet sounds of artists like Lionel Richie and Toto for the duration of our journey. Im telling you, if you havent sailed the high seas while All Night Long blasts in the background, you havent LIVED!

Vist This Weekend Halloween Harvest Things To Do

We were planning on a weekend in Williamsburg this weekend. Was just wondering if the Busch Gardens Halloween harvest is worth the money? Are there any coupons floating around? I did notice that you need reservations. If we decide it is too much money, what activities can we do instead with our teens?

If you dont have a membership, youll pay around $50 per person, plus one parking fee of $25, for a four hour visit. Most reviews that Ive read have enjoyed the event, but worth it is so subjective. If you are able to get tickets, that will include the required reservations. Masks and a temp check are required before you are allowed to enter.

For other things, I think mini golf and Go Ape are open. Theres Colonial Williamsburg, the two Jamestowne sites, two Yorktown sites, etc. I think York River State Park is open, with hikes, etc. there.

Were not fully reopen for indoor dining, with limits on numbers, and masks are required indoors, and recommended outdoors.

Practice Shooting At The Musket Range

If you have ever wanted to shoot a flintlock rifle like they did in the Revolutionary War now is your chance! Drive south of the city to find the Colonial Williamsburg Musket Range. Anyone fourteen and older will have the opportunity to fire reproduction 18th-century firearms. This is clearly one of the most unique things to do in Williamsburg.

You will learn all about safety and proper handling before you start shooting. Along with blasting live rounds at targets, you will also learn about the weapons history, use in hunting, and significance during the war. History buffs will love the feeling of stepping into the shoes of a Revolutionary soldier. This is such a great idea if you are traveling with teenagers who like to complain that history is boring. The thrill of firing an antique-styled gun is sure to change their minds.
