The building has since been moved to the campus as a symbol for the students of what hard work can achieve. Although this is the holy grail for pizza fans, the inside of it is actually used for office space by the University and cannot be accessed by the public.

The exhibits include American art from local artists and contemporary art from all over the world. The Past and Present: Wichitas Legacy is particularly worth seeing and explores works from two of the cities best known artists.
Take Flight At The Kansas Aviation Museum

The former airport terminal, which operated between 1935 and 1951, is the perfect setting for this aviation museum in Wichita. The museum is a good day out for all ages with interesting and well researched exhibits as well as plenty of exciting craft for children to marvel at. The planes on show here include a 1927 Swallow, which crashed in 1929 and was put into storage before being restored, as well as more modern aircraft including a passenger Boeing 727.

Lake Arrowhead State Park
One of Wichita Falls best outdoor attractions is Lake Arrowhead State Park. 300 acres of land, this state park has numerous activities for children and adults: bird watching, disc golf, and water skiing are just a few.
You can rent equipment once you arrive at the park for an activity of your choice including kayaking or cycling.
Keep in mind, this lake is well-know for its fishing.
Learn About Plants At Wichita Gardens

These botanical gardens on Amidon Street were opened in 1987. The different gardens you can explore here include a butterfly garden, Chinese garden of friendship and a rock garden. There are a great number of plants to see and it is worth visiting in different seasons to see the transformation of the gardens. For those with a passion for learning about gardening and flora there are lunchtime lectures held on a variety of topics each and every Wednesday.

Kayak The Arkansas River
Rent a kayak, pedal boat, or standup paddleboard from Boats and Bikes at River Vista. The equipment rental company is managed by and supports the rowing team at Wichita State University. Appreciate The Street Art
Put on your walking shoes and explore the amazing murals along Douglas Avenue in the Douglas Design District, from murals featuring the citys unique Native American sun flag to designs highlighting history and pop culture. Try to find each of the more than 50 works of art along the 2.5-mile route.
If you cant get enough art, you can combine the Douglas Design District adventure with a tour of the sculptures along Douglas Avenue, which range from a depiction of Carrie Nation with her axe ready to tear down a local bar to a cute family of ducks near a street corner. Take A Step Back In Time At The Old Cowtown Museum
The Old Cowtown Museum offers a fascinating walk through Wichitas past. The living history museum takes visitors back to 1865 when Wichita was indeed a Cowtown at the end of the Chisholm Trail a cattle drive on which cowboys herded longhorns from Texas.
Walk the dirt streets past the sheriffs office to the general store, or maybe stop in the saloon for some sarsaparilla and live entertainment. Dont hesitate to interact with the reenactors playing the local sheriff, fur traders, and saloon folk!

Another attraction of the Great Plains, the Great Plains Nature Center aims to educate people about the flora and fauna within the area. The Great Plains, which stretch from the far north to the south of the US, are home to an impressive variety of wildlife including 87 mammal species, more than 450 bird species and a whopping 150,000 insect species. As well as learning, the area is a great place to walk in the woods in an otherwise built up urban area.

Wichita Falls Brewing Company
This is a local brewery that serves up great beer and pub food. They have a good menu with items like the buffalo chicken burger, grilled cheese sandwich or macaroni salad. The founders of Wichita Falls Brewing Company wanted to create something for everyone in their community and they succeeded by creating a comfortable atmosphere where you can enjoy all types of food and beer.
If you are a craft beer lover, this is the perfect place for you! They have an impressive selection of beers that covers everything from hoppy IPAs to fruity sours. This brewery has been open since 2013 so they still feel new but their atmosphere feels like home with plenty of seating areas for everyone who visits.

At the point where the Big and Little Arkansas rivers join, in Downtown Wichita, there stands a 44 foot tall steel statue of an American Indian warrior named the Keeper of the Plains, who watches over Wichita. In 2007, the statue was surrounded by a circle of firepots that nowadays burn a âRing of Fireâ, nearly daily, for 15 minutes. A show worth seeing, if you are fascinated by fire and lights like I am.
Something to be aware of is that the show has a unique schedule and you dont want to miss it. In the spring and summer, the show runs nightly at 9 pm for 15 minutes. During the fall and winter, it starts at 7pm for 15 minutes. Please also note that is If it is raining, the winds are high, the river level is too high, the weather is bad or even if a person is too close to the burners, the Ring of Fire will not be turned on.
Last, but not least, the Keeper of the Plains Plaza has two-foot bridges running north and south, for people to cross from the plaza at the base of the Keeper of the Plains statue and back.â

River Bend Nature Center is an educational facility in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The main attraction is the Ruby N. Priddy Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, a 7000 square feet glass building that houses native butterflies. Visitors walk into a flurry of wings amidst brightly-colored flowers.

This is a weekly event that has been going on in the area for years. Every Saturday from dawn until dusk you can find fresh fruits, vegetables and so much more at this farmers market!
There are vendors who travel all over Texas to bring their goods to Wichita Falls because they know there will be plenty of people here eager to get their hands on fresh produce. With more than forty vendors there is no shortage of things to buy and enjoy here, plus the market always has live music playing in the background so you can take a break from shopping for awhile to listen!

Experience Animals Up Close
Wichitas Tanganyika Wildlife Park features more than 400 animals and 40 exhibits. At the 12-year-old zoo, youll see lemurs, giraffes, monkeys, and penguins, among many other animals. Even better, the park offers up to nine animal encounters in which guests can feed lorikeets, lemurs, hippos, and penguins.
The zoo also participates in conservation programs and is a leader in breeding the okapi an African animal that resembles a cross between a zebra and a giraffe.

Tour The Orpheum Theater

The Orpheum Theater claims to be the first atmospheric theater in the United States and hosts many world class performances throughout the year. You will find the theater on the corner of 1st and Broadway in the downtown area of the city. Tours of the theater, which include architectural highlights and historical facts, can be booked by phoning the theater directly. The tours cost a minimum donation of $10 per person.
Best Things To Do In Wichita
Wichita began life as a cowtown but has grown to be the largest city in the state of Kansas as well as the self-proclaimed Air Capital of the World. This claim is not made lightly with more than half of the worlds aircraft being built here thanks to the presence of some of the aviation worlds major players.
Whilst the rest of the state of Kansas should take precedent during a visit to the area, there is still plenty to warrant spending a couple of days in Wichita including some great museums and park spaces as well as the vibrant Oldtown area.
Oldtown has plenty of history in its buildings but the current occupants provide good value for a visit too. The area is lively and vibrant with a host of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues worth visiting.
