The historic Lamar Street in downtown Wichita Falls is one of the most fun areas in the city. The street is home to a collection of old warehouses that house some great vintage and antique shops today.
One of the largest is the Heritage Antiques and Collectibles, which is home to 3 whole floors of goodies from over 70 different vendors. Alley Cat Vintage is one of the most popular warehouse stores and features an eclectic collection of second-hand vinyl, jewelry, antique Pyrex, and other cool vintage finds.
If youre not into antiques, this area is still worth a drive through, even if its just to look to take a peek at the old warehouses.

Lake Kickapoo is a reservoir just west of Wichita Falls thatis well-known for its fishing. The architecture of the Wichita Falls Memorial Auditorium is grand.
Its a historic venue and you can feel the old bones of the building come to life against the light sun and breeze. The building is colored a soft, slightly pastel-like beige. Its detailed and intricate.
If you run your hands along the walls, the patterns fall into a tight shape.
Right out front is a pocket of flowers. At first glance, theyre a scoop of purple. But as you watch from the steps of Wichita Falls Memorial Auditorium, the lines cut and define the outline of the Lone Star State.

The mission of the Arts Council is to nurture and strengthen the artistic, cultural, and educational quality of the community and surrounding area. We are dedicated to raising awareness in the region through our community art events and venues. The Arts Council is comprised of two historic buildings: The Kemp and The Forum. The buildings are official Texas historical and Wichita Falls landmarks. The Kemp was built in 1917 as a public library. In 1998 the derelict building was leased to the Arts Council and currently the building and grounds house 5 gallery exhibit spaces, three classrooms and an auditorium. Guests, patrons and students from across Texas and Oklahoma come to The Kemp and The Forum to enjoy live entertainment and performances, local and national visual arts exhibitions, and outstanding arts education classes.
Cool Off At Castaway Cove Waterpark
This waterpark is one of the most awesome places with many adventurous water slides and other attractions, including a calm ride down the Lazy River ride.
Another water attraction is the rhythmic wave pool mimicking the sea tides where you can get a feeling of being on the sea. Its a fun experience.
There is also a dry area that houses volleyball courts and playgrounds.
The Buccaneer Bay is themed in a tropical paradise and especially suited for families and kids.
It has fun water slides, interactive water tunnels, and crawling slides.
The major attraction is Pirates Plunge which has an 11-meter high drop followed by a 360-degree loop.
Another exciting adventure water slide is the Storm Watch Tower, which has an enclosed corkscrew tube propelling you into the light from the darkness within at a very high speed.
The in-house Castaway Café is awesome to satisfy those hunger cravings.
Wine, craft beer, cocktails along with lemonade and mocktails can help you stay chilled under the tormenting sun.
Burgers and hot dogs are also served hot to remove the hunger pangs.

The North Texas History Museum is fascinating. It’s aterrific site to start a trip to Wichita Falls because it’s right in the heartof the city. The information we gained about many historical buildings,locations, and events influenced the rest of our trip.
The museum, which is spread out across 14 rooms, ismaintained by friendly volunteers who are passionate about educating touristsabout the historical significance of this part of the country, and there aredynamic displays of period relics for you to appreciate.
Many locals have given interesting items or collections tothis well-kept facility. An area dedicated to cowboy boots piqued our interest,as did a large collection of cowboy hats in another place. Some of the thingshad previously been worn by rodeo celebrities or well-known locals. Otherartifacts had belonged to ordinary people. I appreciated reading the detailssupplied on some of the owners, which included both like-new and well-wornitems shown side by side. Exploring this museum is one of the best things to do inWichita Falls.

Visit The World’s Littlest Skyscraper
The Newby-McMahon Building, officially known as the World’sLittlest Skyscraper, is a unique miniature Neoclassic-style red brick edificein Wichita Falls’ downtown district. Augustus Newby built the four-storystructure in 1906 as part of a shady investment plan that has become a locallegend.
The structure was controversially built-in collaborationwith petroleum engineer J.D. McMahon, who boasted that he would create a lavishhigh-rise in the city’s central business centre.
Due to a swindling scam, the structure was built at a heightof 480 inches rather than 480 feet. The construction was featured in the 1920sby the syndicated Ripley’s Believe It or Not! column, gaining nationalnotoriety. Though the structure was previously a cause of humiliation for thecity, it has since been designated as a Texas Historic Landmark within WichitaFalls’ Depot Square Historic District.

Many of the attractions around Wichita Falls that arent free offer military discounts. All you have to do is ask. We laughed our way through Lunar Mini-Golf in the Sikes Senter Mall.
Feel like cooling off? Castaway Cove waterpark is a great place to go for fun in the Texas sun. Another interesting place is the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. Before learning about Wichita Falls, I had no idea there was such a place. If you would like to get an education about the natural environment of Texas, the River Bend Nature Center offers many items of note, including a butterfly conservatory.
If you have time, you could create an art project and explore the free exhibits at the Kemp Center for the Arts. While youre exploring, take a stroll by the historic Kell House Museum. Another unique attraction is the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum.
If you are there on a Saturday, you can take in the nearby farmers market as well. In fact, Saturdays are a great day to visit Wichita Falls, because you can also take in the free Ps Crazy Car Museum. Filled with classic cars, trucks, tractors, and more, its only open on Saturdays.

Ps Crazy Car Museum is a classic museum for automobile fanatics in Wichita Falls.
Here, you can admire a collection of more than 40 vintage cars, trucks, tractors, and other intriguing vehicles while you witness the evolution of automobiles across different countries.
