African American Festival Of Raleigh And Wake County

The African American Cultural Festival, a Labor Day Weekend tradition, is back this year, but a little bit different. It will take place on both Saturday and Sunday, in several locations in Raleigh. There will be two days of vendor markets, two Family Fun Days , and concerts each night at the plaza outside of Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. Wake Forest is a town in Franklin, Granville and Wake counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina located almost entirely in Wake County, it lies just north of the state capital, Raleigh. The population was 30,117 at the 2010 census, up from 12,588 at the 2000 census. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the city’s population to be 45,629 as of July 1, 2019. In 2007, the town was listed by Forbes magazine as the 20th fastest growing suburb in America, with a 73.2 percent increase in population between 2000 and 2006. Wake Forest was the original home of Wake Forest University for 122 years before it moved to Winston-Salem in 1956.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget also includes Wake Forest as a part of the RaleighDurhamChapel HillCombined Statistical Area, which has a population of 1,998,808 as of U.S. Census 2012 Population Estimates. Effective June 6, 2003 the Office of Management and Budget redefined the Federal Statistical Areas and dismantled what had been for decades the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, MSA and split them into two separate MSAs even though the region still functions as a single metropolitan area.

Play In The Parks And Nature

E. Carroll Joyner Park is a highlight, with expansive walking trails that pass historic log cabins with plaques for the kids to read about the people and animals who lived there. There is also a pond to spot turtles, paved trails for bikes, and a large playground erected within the last couple of years. The new community center hosts a variety of outstanding childrens programs, from hip hop dance to holiday crafts, to free open play in their gym with a variety of toys for kids to enjoy. Adults can also take advantage of their gym memberships and the nice indoor running track with a view of the forested park.

And dont miss their Six Sundays in Spring event, with free live concerts in the park six Sundays in a row starting at the end of April right when the weather is warming up. Forest Ridge Park is another great playground and nature park, with a zipline and fossil dig for the kiddos. They can dig for shark teeth and a variety of fossils in the dirt that has been brought in from caves in Western North Carolina.
