Things To Do In Vancouver In Winter

Go Wine Tasting In The Fraser Valley

Things to do in the Vancouver winter

This is one of my personal favorite activities to do in Vancouver! Anyone who knows me knows that I love wine, and the only thing I love more than wine is wine tours!

The Fraser Valley just outside of Vancouver is a beautiful wine region producing some really tasty wines. A wine tour to the Fraser Valley will take you around to some of the best wineries and you get to taste all of the wine for yourself! Sounds like a good day if you ask me!

This Fraser Valley Wine tour is a five-hour tour that takes you to five different wineries where you can try a variety of boutique wines. The tour will pick you up and drop you off at your Vancouver hotel so all you have to worry about is having a brilliant day!

Where To Stay In Vancouver Canada

Vancouver is one of the most popular cities in Canada. The fact is that in the summer and winter the city books up in advance very fast! Booking your hotel or hostel well in advance is the only way to secure the best place to stay for you!

Some great hotels and hostels in Vancouver that we love are:

The Cambie Hostel Gastown This budget hostel is an overall good budget choice. The location is in the heart of Gastown and close to lots of bars and restaurants and attached to the hostel is a very lively bar too. Rooms are clean but the bathrooms are a little cramped. Its perfect for backpackers on a budget and is considerably cheaper than others offering comparable quality.

Times Square Suites For a beautiful hotel close to Stanley Park you cant go past the Times Square Hotel. Its very hard to fault this hotel and the location is perfect. It is a good mix between being affordable as well as a very nice hotel.

Hyatt Regency Vancouver For those wanting the perfect location halfway between Stanley Park and Gastown, the Hyatt Regency is a perfect choice. As you can imagine, its a luxury stay in a large hotel chain that is highly reviewed!

Christmas Glow In Langley

Christmas Glow is an attraction with hundreds of thousands of lights and numerous family-friendly things to see and do. There are Christmas light displays, activities for children and live music.

In its first and second years the attraction took place indoors in a giant greenhouse in Langley. In 2019 it had two indoor venues one in Abbotsford and the other in downtown Vancouver. The Abbotsford event was at the Tradex Centre while the Vancouver venue was at the Harbour Convention Centre by False Creek.

Last year Christmas Glow returned to Langley. Instead of being an indoor event in a giant greenhouse, however, it changed to a drive-thru event once again at a greenhouse in Langley, although it happened outdoors instead of indoors.

The attraction is back in 2021, and once again running as a drive-thru event that people can enjoy from the comfort and safety of their vehicles. The experience can be enjoyed between November 18th and January 1st. It expects to sell out, so if you want to go be sure to reserve your spot early!

Check Out Imagine Picasso

Imagine Picasso opened to the public, allowing guests to experience 200 of Pablo Picassos paintings from various eras of his life. Slightly different from the Imagine Van Gogh exhibit, the set up for this event mimics an illusive maze where visitors can roam around gazing at moving art come to life, quite literally. The exhibit will run until January 8, 2022.

Explore Deep Cove And Climb Quarry Rock

North Vancouver is gorgeous. Many tourists never actuallyventure as far as North Vancouver, but in my opinion, they should!

The area of Deep Cove is located across the harbor only about a half an hour drive from Vancouver city. It is also easily reached by public transport.

In Deep Cove, youll find cute cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and a waterfront park that you could easily spend a few hours relaxing at.

Just next to the park is the Quarry Rock hiking trail. This short hike only takes about 2 hours both ways and is about 7 kilometers long. The trail is well maintained but does offer some tougher sections of steep inclines or even stairs.

At the end of the trail, youll end at Quarry Rock a largerock with incredible views of the surrounding mountains and Vancouver city.

This hike is short and beautiful and well worth doing if you have the chance. However, it can get very busy with both tourists and locals. I recommend visiting first thing in the morning in order to avoid the crowds as much as possible!

Ride A Snowcat At Whistler

TOP 10: Things To Do In Vancouver

This is a truly an amazing Canadian experience and something you wont soon forget! Its a great day trip from Vancouver in winter.

A Snowcat is an enclosed-cab truck-sized fully tracked vehicle designed to move on snow. Theyre also known as trail groomers or piste machines.

Youll ride in an Snowcat up Whistler Mountain in this fully-heated machine. It will climb 6000 feet up Whistler Mountain in about an hour to the cozy and quaint log cabin on Crystal Ridge. Youll see the beautiful Whistler alpine along the way along with beautiful panoramic views of the Coast Mountain range.

At the top youll be escorted to the Crystal Hut where youll have a delicious fondue dinner. We had cheese fondue with baguettes and pickles, and chicken, beef and assorted vegetables with dipping sauces. To top it off there was a delicious freshly-baked pie for dessert cooked in a wood-fired oven. It was just heavenly! A great wine was included too.

Riding a Snowcat is a great reason to choose Whistler for weekend trips from Vancouver in winter.

We really loved our Snowcat experience. It truly is something you can only do in Canada :-). It really answers the question, why visit Vancouver :-).

Visit The Fraser Valley On A Wine Tour

Youve hit up some of the breweries in Vancouver, so time to switch gears and try some local wine. The Fraser Valley is a region located east of Vancouver, about an hours drive away. This agricultural region is home to some amazing vineyards and wineries. Joining a tour like this one is the perfect way to explore the area and try some delicious local wine!

The half-day tour includes hotel pick-up, transportation between wineries, and lots of great information about the wine-making process. And, of course, there will be lots of wine to try and bring home for later. Although the vines will be bare, the wine will still be flowing!

You can also visit the wineries on your own, and if you do, be sure to visitSeaside Pearl Winery, its my favorite. With that said, a tour is such a fun option and especially convenient during the winter when the weather is not so good. You can stay inside, leave the driving to someone else, and just go along for the ride!

Walk Run Or Cycle The Vancouver Seawall

Did you know Vancouver has the worlds longest uninterrupted waterfront path? This Seaside Greenway stretches 28 km in length, connecting Coal Harbour to English Bay to Kitsilano.

Earlier in this post, we mentioned you should walk the Stanley Park Seawall. We highly recommend you do that section first, if youre limited on time. However, if you have a few days in Vancouver we recommend you explore other sections of the Vancouver Seawall.

Walking or cycling the Seawall will have you pass many of Vancouvers famous landmarks, including the Lions Gate Bridge, Siwash Rock, A-maze-ing Laughter public art display, Science World , BC Place , Rogers Arena , Olympic Village, Granville Island, Burrard Bridge and Kitsilano Beach.

While its nice to walk through a winter wonderland, its also nice knowing that Vancouver doesnt get a lot of snow during Canadas chilly months, so hikes are more accessible year-round. Here are some excellent hikes in and around Vancouver that are generally snow-free:

Its probably best to do this one with older children only.
