See The Oldest Wire Suspension Bridge In The Us
Youll see a wire suspension bridge that is the oldest known in the country at Roeblings Delaware Aqueduct . The bridge runs across the Delaware River from Barryville, New York, to Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. The bridge was converted to a vehicular bridge, then a toll bridge after the canal closed. Now, it is just picturesque and a cool way to cross state to state for kicks.
Howard and I even made a video driving across the single-lane bridge! In 1968, Roeblings Delaware Aqueduct was made a National Historic Landmark.
Where To Stay In Albany Ny
Now, its time to rest your head after an exciting and fulfilling day of exploring Albany. I stayed at the charming Washington Park Inn, a Victorian mansion built in 1884. The inn is a stunning home where I am certain youll have a cozy, comfortable, and delightful overnight stay. After spending two nights at the Washington Park Inn, I wasnt ready to leave!
I adored my spacious room, which included many of the original structural details like the fireplace. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet for a restful nights sleep. The room and bathroom are quite roomy, and you can enjoy many modern amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi and hundreds of channels on TV.
Feel free to help yourself to the complimentary coffee and tea in the shared kitchen space. There are also lots of other beverages and breakfast food items to enjoy. I really enjoyed the common areas throughout the home, like the dining tables and couches. Theres even a small office upstairs should you need to use a computer. The owners at the Washington Park Inn have truly thought of everything to ensure that you have a memorable stay.
When you travel to Albany, be sure to book your stay at Washington Park Inn. You can also read more reviews from fellow travelers here. Book early when you can. This place books up fast because its just so lovely!

Ruth Reynolds Glunt Nature Preserve
SaugertiesLocated on a sandbar in the Hudson River, this nature preserve in the Village of Saugerties is small but teeming with biodiversity: nesting bald eagles, ducks, and invasive species like the Eurasian water chestnut. With a spanning marshland and fairly deep sandy trail, bask in the serenity of the area with only the chirps of birds and the buzzing of insects to accompany you. Ten minutes away is the piece de resistance of the preserve, Saugerties Lighthouse, which is a structure atypical of conventional lighthouses that also doubles as a tiny accommodation for weekend stays. From the river deck, take in views of boaters and kayakers navigating the Hudson River and in the right season, gorgeous fall foliage is visible across the river. If interested, the Saugerties Conservancy manages the lighthouse and can be reached for accommodation information. The preserve is currently open.

Walk along the creek to see 19 waterfalls and stunning 200ft cliffs. The most iconic shot is of Rainbow Falls Bridge and the most memorable fall is Cavern Cascade.
Pro Tip: A shuttle runs from one side of the canyon to the other, but is only available in the summer and on busier weekends in the Spring and Fall. Be sure to check their schedule to find out if its an option.

Visit New Yorks Best Grocery Chain
The Rochester-based Wegmans Food Market has more than 70 stores across the mid-Atlantic region of the country. Wegmans is the #1 tourist attraction in Rochester, as well as the #1 grocery store in America. Its a must-see!
Wegmans won the first-ever Food Channel award for the grocery store that most changed the way we shop and has been named in ForbesTop 10 Places to Work For more than ten years. That is partially due to Wegmans cutting edge and employee-friendly work incentives and pay. I loved the variety of grab & go foods, the soup bar, ready-made smoothies, and the comfortable second-floor dining area.

Located on the highest section of the Shawangunk Mountains in Minnewaska State Park Preserve, Sams Point boasts a variety of natural wonders: Lake Maratanza, ice caves, Verkeerder Kill Falls, cliffs and numerous scenic vistas. The best time to visit is during the fall, and in the late spring and early summer.
One of my favorite activities here, in addition to enjoying the beautiful views from the cliff edge, is to hike to ice caves and see what is left from the winter. If you are looking for scenic hikes, check out Gertrudes Nose, Rainbow Falls, and High Peters Kill trails.

Bike Ride At Historic Washington Park
After youve refueled, its time for a bike ride around the city. I suggest taking your set of wheels around historic Washington Park. Its easy to rent a bicycle in Albany. There are CDPHP Cycle stations with bikes all over the city. Download the CDPHP Cycle app to your phone. Youll be able to load it up with money and see where there are bikes available in advance. Its quite ingenious: the app will show exactly how many bicycles are left at each station. That way, you wont visit a particular bike rack to find that theyre all in use. You can rent by the hour, the month, or even the season. With the wind in your hair going sightseeing by bicycle, its one of the most fun things to do in Albany NY.
Washington Park is a beautiful place to visit, and you should definitely make at least one visit over your 2 days in Albany. Calvert Vaux and Frederick Olmstead designed this 81-acre park in the 1870s-80s. Of course, they are famous for New York Citys Central Park. Youll see statues, fountains, basketball courts, a skateboard park, picnic areas, playgrounds, and historic homes. During the summer months, there are free plays at the Park Playhouse at the Washington Park Lakehouse almost every night. When I visited in the spring, the tulips were just about to bloom. Its such a peaceful and gorgeous area of the city.

How Many Days To Spend In Hudson
Hudson is a bit like the Downtown or Brooklyn of Upstate New York.
Its exploded in popularity, with lots of new restaurants, bars and boutiques opening all along Warren street.
Theres enough to see and do to keep you busy for a day or two, so Hudson is a great small town to use as a base for exploring the Hudson Valley region.
- For the outdoors-y, youre at the foot of the Catskill Mountains, with plenty of great hiking and skiing options.
- For the culture aficionados, theres dozens of antique shops, independent art galleries, award winning restaurants and pick-your-own organic farms.
If you have time for a long weekend trip, Id suggest 3 nights and 2 days in Hudson.
If youre coming from New York City, you can take the Friday late afternoon train after work, and arrive in time to relax and have dinner and drinks.
Then you have the full weekend to explore the town and surrounding Columbia County, before grabbing an early morning Monday train back to the city.
