It is located in the South Boston Avenue. The Museum is a boutique museum with an unusual set from the age of Art Deco. The building in which the museum is established is itself a treasure of Art Deco architecture. It is one of the most incredible things to do in Tulsa. Art Deco Museum also treats events like the Deco Ball and afternoon tea parties. The museum provides trips led by docents, which are possible upon invitation. The gallery includes gift shops also and is open from Monday to Saturday.

Whilst not as well known or regarded as the Boston Avenue Methodist Church, the Philcade Building on the corner of East Street and South Boston Avenue is another great example of art deco design. The building is currently used as offices but the exquisite and intricate design of its lobby are worth admiring. The architect responsible for the great work seen here is Leon B Senter.

If quiets more your thing, there are outdoor waterfront seating areas or funky indoor lounges for reading, playing board games or napping. The Gathering Place is popular, so I recommend going at either end of the day hours are 9 a.m. 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

The Philbrook Museum of Art is a former oil magnates villa that has been converted into stylish and well thought out collection of artwork, mainly of Native American origin. The villa itself is attractive with beautiful greenery surrounding it. The Philbrook Museum of Art also has a second location in the Brady Arts District of the city. It is more of a contemporary art venue but is every bit as classy as the Philbrook Museum of Art. Docent-led tours of the collections take place daily and are totally free.

Gathering Place: Tulsa’s Riverfront Park

One of the most spectacular spots in Tulsa is the Gathering Place: Tulsa’s Riverfront Park. The 100-acre public space along the downtown riverfront has interactive experiences designed for social interaction, outdoor adventure, and conservation.

Walk 56 feet above Peggy’s Pond on Swing Hill, which is the highest point in the park. There are nature trails, a lodge and boathouse, gardens, and sports courts where you can take up a game of basketball or volleyball.

The expansive public park along the Arkansas River is a popular place for both recreation and relaxation. The downtown park is the result of the largest private donation for a public park in U.S. history.

There are events at Gathering Place throughout the year, from lawn concerts to community festivals. Even if there is not a scheduled event during your stay, the Gathering Place is a must-visit.

The Tulsa Air and Space Museum opened in 1998 in an old air hanger. The museum is now housed on its own facility which covers an area of 18 acres. The planetarium here opened in 2006 and was the first in the state of Oklahoma. More than two and a half million visitors have enjoyed the museum since it opened. Exhibits include the science behind flight and space, simulators and historic artifacts. Be sure to catch a planetarium show in the dome during your time here.

Oklahoma firefighters take on Oklahoma police officers in the seventh annual Smoke & Guns Charity MMA and Boxing event presented by QuikTrip on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at BOK Center.

Like the John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park, the Cultural Center tells the story of the 1921 race riots but also focuses on the positives of the area when it was once a center of black commerce and dubbed the Black Wall Street. Window shopping is one of my favorite, free travel activities. In addition to art galleries, Tulsa has a couple of fun souvenir shops worth a visit.

Ida Red General Store is popular, with two locations, but I preferred tiny and quirky Buck Atoms Cosmic Curios. Opened in 2018, the former Route 66 gas station carries a line of Tulsa gifts emblazoned with the shops namesake, who stands a full 21-feet tall outside the shop.
