Tonopah Historic Mining Park
If you have a little more time, the Tonopah Historic Mining Park is one of the best places to immerse yourself in local history and culture. It’s on the site of the original silver mining claims that triggered the Silver Rush to Tonopah.
You can see a movie at the visitor center, peer down a mine shaft, and take a guided ATV tour of the site all for a pretty reasonable price.
Tonopah Historic Mining Park is the big thing to do in Tonopah that we didn’t do. It is located behind the Mizpah Hotel, in the center of town.

I was surprised when I discovered Tonopah had a brewery. That is something I wasn’t expecting to find. Correct me if I am wrong but I don’t think Nevada is known for their beer, but regardless, I had to taste test some brewskies and my final verdict: Tonopah brewery is worth a visit.
The cool thing about the beers is that they are all named after people that lived in Tonopah back when it was a mining town, so along with a cool refreshing cup of beer you will be learning a bit of history as well.
They also have a menu with pretty decent BBQ. I mean, I will be honest here, Tonopah will not have the best food. This was by far the best meal I had in Tonopah and the ribs went perfect with a cold beer. If beer isn’t your thing, the owners also own a winery and sell glasses of wine from there.

Halfway between Las Vegas and Reno, Tonopahs ideal location in Nye County makes it the perfect standalone destination or an awesome addition to tack onto your existing Silver State travels. Day Trip To A Nearby Ghost Town
Before this trip, I have always wanted to explore a ghost town. There is something eerily cool about seeing a town that has been nearly untouched for decades. I love thinking about the people who used to live in these towns.
Who were they, and what was their story?
First things first. Do you know what a ghost town is and why they exist? In the early 1900s, mining was the industry everyone got into because that’s where the money was. Whether you were someone’s husband, uncle, son, roommate, basically if you were a man, you would most likely be working in the mines. People from all over the US started flocking to the west with the hopes of striking it rich. There were so many people that the towns that already existed couldn’t contain them all, so new towns had to be built to accommodate everyone.
All good things eventually come to an end, right? When the silver was running out, people were forced to leave these mining towns to look for work elsewhere, leaving these towns abandoned for decades.
Luckily for us, these towns still exist, and many of them are open for visitors. Some of them are a bit more lively and taken care of than others, but regardless visiting these towns is like stepping back in time. There are a couple of ghost towns close to Tonopah, and I highly recommend spending a day exploring them if you can.
To get to these towns, you absolutely need a car. There are no buses or trains that stop in these towns.

Nevada Things To Do: Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
Located across from the front desk lobby, the 14,000-square-foot conservatory is home to 34,000 flowers, 750 shrubs, and 25 trees. The conservatory team of 120 members changes the garden exhibits each season and 90% of the horticulture used in the outgoing showcase is recycled, in a nod to ecological conservation.
Above the space, the glass ceiling’s floral patterns etched in green oxidized copper complement the exhibits, and the showcases themselves are meant to highlight the seasonal touches to the resort’s bridges, ponds, gazebos, and trees. The conservatory is considered a central component of the Bellagio’s arrival and departure experience.

Get Spooked By Ghosts
I know I have talked about ghosts a ton in the article, but now we will discuss where you can get spooked by them. The cemetery next to The Clown Motel is one of the most haunted places in town. It’s abandoned now, meaning no new bodies get buried there. It’s not uncommon for people to see glimpses of figures looming in the darkness. One such figure is that of a man. Well, it’s really the outline of a man, and no one knows who he is. I ended up exploring the cemetery at night, and it is pretttttttty creepy, I am not going to lie.
Must Do In Nevada: Lion Habitat Ranch
This 8.5-acre ranch is located less than 15 miles from the strip and is home to approximately 40 lions. This proximity is appropriate, given that the ranch’s lions previously called the MGM Grand home. Groups of up to 20 people can book a “behind the scenes” tour, and the ranch provides “experiences.”
In the 2-hour Feast with the Beasts, guests are accompanied by the big cats as the guests move about the property and eat a provided meal. Feed the Animals allows guests to perform private feedings with either a lion or a giraffe. Visitors can also book a 3 or 4-hour training session with the lions.
