Find Where 10 Things I Hate About You Was Filmed

Anyone else a big fan of the movie 10 Things I Hate About You? That movie was quintessential to my childhood and my love of Heath Ledger . Not to mention 1999 was just a good year all around. This is all to say that I LOVE 10 Things I Hate About You.

What most people dont realize is that the crazy beautiful school that they happen to attend in the film is a real thing. Its actually a public high school, weirdly enough, and its in Tacoma! The school is called Stadium High and we went there and walked around the grounds one afternoon. We even saw the stadium and the bleachers where Heath Ledger does his famous scene, singing Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You. Aka my favorite scene in the whole movie.

I was tempted to reenact it myself, but didnt want to scare my new travel mates who were fellow Instagrammers. Not to mention, there were a lot of cameras around and there would be way too much physical proof for my liking. Regardless, I geeked out majorly while I was walking around the school. My only recommendation would be to go during the summer, weekends, or during school breaks. You dont want to be that creeper taking pictures when there are kids in school.

Things To Do In Tacoma For A Weekend Whether Youre Looking For A Good Washington Road Trip Stop Or A Quick Break From Seattle

Tacoma has had a renaissance of sorts in the last few years. People used to comment on the Aroma of Tacoma in reference to the overbearing sulfur smell that used to hover over the city. Visitors would pass right on through on their way to Seattle. Most people didnt think there were many things to do in Tacoma and saw it as a backwater city that wasnt worth the stop.

A lot has changed in a short amount of time. Travelers are finally starting to see the draw of this Pacific Northwest city and all it has to offer. I was luckily enough to visit Tacoma for the first time this past July and I was impressed with the beauty, history, and local hangouts that I found there. If youre unsure of what there is to do in Tacoma, or youre simply looking for a new and lesser known city to explore in Washington these are my recommendations on how to spend two days in the city.

Hike To Mount Rainier For An Almost Aerial View

Much of Tacoma is vast nature. Although it holds many stunning sights, nothing beats an almost aerial view of this outstanding seaport city. If youre willing to hike for a scene-stealer view, Mount Rainer and its 4,392 meter-glory will take your breath awayand its worth every step.

The journey itself will show you an almost untouched part of Washington, and many travelers yearn for the indescribable feeling of seeing the road less traveled. Its almost a conquest, and thats energizing.

If you want to see the highest mountain in Washington and conquer a different view, this hike is for you.

Things To Do In Tacoma: Museum Of Glass

The striking Museum of Glass, a conical building designed by renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson, has been a Tacoma landmark since its construction in 2002. The museum is a wonderful destination for all who love glass art, and its highlight are the glass blowing demonstrations. These are held in the 145-seat amphitheater and are narrated.

The museum has permanent collections of 20th and 21st-century glass art as well as pieces from the Kids Design Glass program: glassworks made using the drawings of children as inspiration. Try The Best Craft Hot Dogs In Town

Top 10 Things to Do with Kids in Olympia Washington | Marcie in Mommyland

One of the best things to do in Tacoma? Enjoy a craft hot dog! I had never heard of craft hot dogs until I went to The Red Hot on my last night in Tacoma. I was not disappointed with the crafty dogs that I ordered. Be prepared for a busy spot because this seems to be the place to hangout in Tacoma. They have everything from classic Chicago-style dogs, to PB & J hot dogs, and really, everything in between.

It was busting at the seams when we walked in and it took a good 30 minutes until we had a place to sit. With that said, it was well worth the busy atmosphere for the food and drink. I love that they serve their hot dogs with frito chips as well. It brings me back to my elementary school days. And their huge tap list would have to be one of the best in town, there were so many choices of every type of beer you could imagine.

To truly feel as if you have stepped back in time, head to Fort Nisqually where you will find a working museum that will show you a slice of life from the 1850s.

As you wander around the museum you will find staff members in period garb who are happy to reenact scenes from life in the fort in the days of old.

As a result, you can expect to see reconstructions of things such as arts and crafts as well as period professions such as the work of blacksmiths in the 19th century.

There are seven different areas of the fort, all of which are furnished and decorated in the period style and which feature as National Historic Landmarks in the city.

There is also a visitor center and a museum store where you can pick up some vintage souvenirs.

Lemay Americas Car Museum

Another of the citys many excellent museums is LeMay which houses an extensive and impressive collection of cars. Set right next to the Tacoma Dome multi-purpose arena, its sparkling showrooms and supercars lie just a short drive south of both Museum Row and downtown.

Established in 2012, the museum is named after local businessman Harold LeMay who amassed the worlds largest collection of cars during his lifetime. In total, over 350 are now on display with sleek Ferraris and shiny Chevrolets lying alongside classic cars from the 1930s and even earlier.

Besides taking in all their fine features, visitors to Americas Car Museum can also learn all about the history of the automobile, its evolution and impact on the country. In addition to exhibits on car culture in Britain and the iconic Route 66, there is also a fun driving simulator for you to try out and a hands-on family zone for kids.

Go Beer & Coffee Tasting

The Pacific Northwest is known for a lot of great aspects, and good coffee and beer are two of them. I made it to a couple of coffee shops while I was in town, and I would recommend Bluebeard Coffee Roasters and Anthem Coffee & Tea. Anthem has the added bonus of hosting live music in the evenings.

In terms of beer, Tacoma is not quite as developed as the Seattle or Portland craft beer scenes, but there are still quite a few places worth drinking at if youre a beer enthusiast. Those would include Harmon Brewery, Narrows Brewing Company, Odd Otter Brewing, and Wingman Brewers.
