Kirkwood Winery was the first vineyard established in a rural valley three miles north of Summersville, West Virginia. The vineyard was planted by Rodney Facemire and his sons in spring of 1984. It now consists of over six acres of land that produce 40 tons of grapes every year. The orchards that already existed on the farm were expanded and now grow blackberry, raspberry and blueberry fields and a rhubarb patch. The old family oak press has been used since the beginning. Harvests now yield more than 4,000 gallons of wine every year, used to produce over 30 different varieties of French Hybrid American varietal, mead, vegetable and other fruit wines. Tours and tasting of the Vineyards, Winery and Isaiah Morgan Distillery are offered throughout the week.

What are people saying about things to do near Summersville, WV 26651?

This is a review for things to do near Summersville, WV 26651:

“My family and I scheduled a last minute cabin in Beaver, WV for the week and during our stay we googled things to do in the area. The Lost World Caverns came up and with only a 45 minute drive it was the highlight of our trip. The shop is very clean and has plenty of products including outerwear if you’re not dressed for the occasion. The prices are extremely fair and the experience of the self guided tour is very easy to navigate as you’re allowed to go at your own pace and experience the cave how you want to. This being our first time in a cave, it was very interesting and engaging. I recommend this to anyone local or passing through. Not an activity I’ll ever regret!”

My wife & I “stumbled across” this park while “chasing the foliage” in West Virginia. I’m a bit of a history buff, so this was a great choice to expand our viewing. And the overlook of the old ferry crossing is amazing scenery!

Cathedral Falls Gauley Bridge Wv

Summersville Lake

33 minutes / 24.7 miles from Summersville Lake Retreat & Lighthouse

Cathedral Falls is easily accessible for anyone as it is right on the side of the road just outside the town of Gauley Bridge. It features a beautiful 60+ foot waterfall flowing down a narrow canyon right beside US Route 60. This creek begins on Gauley Mountain and makes a short but exciting trip to the New River. It drops nearly 100 feet over a series of Upper Nuttall sandstone ledges, but the final 60 feet of drops are the ones you can see from the roadside park. Well worth the trip this is a great place to stop for photos, enjoy a picnic lunch, and have easy access to beautiful WV nature.
