Things To Do In Stockton California: Wat Dhammararam Buddhist Temple
The Wat Dhammararam Buddhist Temple was established in 1982 as the Theravada Buddhist Temple by Cambodian refugees who resettled in Stockton to escape their war-torn homes. As they integrated into American society and rebuilt their lives, there was a need for them to preserve their culture and so, the temple was created. Since its formation, the Wat Dhammararam Buddhist Temple has continued to serve the Cambodian community in and around Stockton with programs, meditations, and other events. The temple, which is open to everyone throughout the year, is filled with nearly 100 colorful, larger-than-life jewel-encrusted statues which depict and celebrate the life of the Cambodian Buddha.

Why Is Rockland County Called Rockland
Henry Hudson is credited as the first European to set eyes on what would become Rockland. In 1609, Hudson, an Englishman under commission to the Dutch East India Company, sailed up the river that would one day bear his name. That county included all of present-day Rockland and part of what is now Orange County.

Little Manila Stockton California
Little Manila is an area in Stockton that has been predominantly inhabited by Filipino Americans since the 1930s. Initially Filipinos were attracted to agricultural jobs in the Central Valley and Stockton soon became their home. At that point, the racist laws that were in place kept these people from educating themselves, increasing their economic status, or even going into Main Street. As Filipinos set up businesses and organizations to meet their needs, the area south of Main Street soon became their very own community. As you explore the streets today, youll find remnants of the hotels, restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and other establishments that were focused on serving the Filipino community. The once vibrant district is being restored to its former splendor and is identified by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of the nations most endangered historic places.
