The Staten Island September 11 Memorial

My visit to the Staten Island September 11 Memorial was a very moving experience. This memorial is dedicated to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the brave first responders who were from Staten Island.

The memorial is quite simple, consisting of two large fiberglass structures that resemble wings. Inside each wing is a list of the victims names. To me, building this memorial was a great idea to reflect on the events of September 11 and remember those who were lost.

I highly recommend a visit to the Staten Island September 11 Memorial, especially if youre visiting New York City for the first time. This is a great way to learn about one of the most tragic events in American history. Plus, you get to have beautiful views of Manhattan and the New York City skyline.

Staten Island Mall: Shopping In Staten Island

After years of planning and construction, The Empire Outlets in Staten Island became one of the main highlights for tourists on Staten Island. Shopping on Staten Island was never really worth it until Empire Outlets opened.

This also benefits the borough as well. Some will argue that the borough has been forgotten, but Empire Outlets will effectively bring in more foot traffic and puts Staten Island back on the radar. On its inaugural weekend, Empire Outlets had over 165,000 visitors. Getting there is a breeze also. Just take the Staten Island Ferry and youre there.

Things To Do In Staten Island New York

Staten Island is commonly referred to as New York’s “overlooked” borough, often drawing visitors who are primarily interested in the scenic free ferry ride, which departs every 30 minutes from the ferry terminal in lower Manhattan and provides superior photo opportunities of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. We, however, see it more as a local gem, a bastion of incredible Sri Lankan food, which is hard to come by in the other boroughs, small cultural centers and museums, and more green space than anywhere else in New York City. We rounded up a few things to do when you spend a day on this urban island.

Explore The Parks Of The Greenest Borough

Staten Island has more green space than any other borough in New York, with 9,300 acres of federal, state, and city parkland. Running and biking trails, tranquil ponds, playgrounds, promenades, meadows, beaches, and even a historic fort can be found throughout. The roster is too extensive to list, but if you only have a day, your best bet is to hit Snug Harbor Cultural Center , which was founded in 1831 when a Manhattan hospital for aged Marines relocated here. Today, the 83-acre park is home to five landmark Greek Revival buildings that house galleries featuring modern and historical art exhibits, as well as the Staten Island Childrens Museum and the lush Staten Island Botanical Garden. As further proof of why Staten Island is referred to as the greenest borough, consider Snug Harbors 2.5-acre heirloom heritage farm, which supplies high-end Manhattan restaurants like Per Se and sells its bounty to locals at a weekly seasonal farm stand.

Frequently Asked Questions And Answers

What are people saying about things to do in Staten Island, NY?

This is a review for things to do in Staten Island, NY:

“This is a hidden gem on Staten Island! I make an effort to visit at least once every season, since it looks and feels like a whole different place in each season . It’s so quiet and secluded, a great place to come and find solitude from the crazy world we are living in right now. It’s cheap as well! It’s only $5, and I think cheaper for students, free for members of Snug Harbor, and free every Saturday for Staten Island residents. Definitely fits in with the whole beauty of Snug Harbor, in which this is located in.”
