How To Get To Stamford Train Or Car

Stamford is a city on the Long Island Sound located about 40 miles from New York City. I chose to drive to Stamford as I wanted to have the flexibility of easily moving throughout the city. Stamford also has a train station and both Amtrak and Metro North trains arrive and depart regularly. Although Stamford is about an hour from New York City, it is still very much a commuter city, so there are tons of trains that go between the two cities.

Ukrainian Museum And Library

The Ukrainian Museum and Library of Stamford is dedicated to the collection, exhibition, and preservation of artifacts and publications concerning the culture and heritage of the Ukraine. The oldest cultural institution established by Ukrainians in North America, the Ukrainian Museum and Library of Stamford was built in 1933 and opened its doors to the public in 1935. The museum began with just two great rooms within the Quintard Estate and in the 1980s expanded to two floors of the mansion, while the library and archives were moved to the former St. Basil Preparatory School due to the need for more space. Today, the Ukrainian Museum and Library of Stamford features collections of fine arts, folk art, religious art and literature collections.

Cummings Beach + West Beach

6 Things To Know Before You Move To Stamford CT | Living In Connecticut

Stamford is a great place to visit the beach in the summer! Two of the most popular are Cummings Beach and West Beach located quite close to one another. The beaches were nice, and when I visited they were almost empty as it was only April. Even in the early spring they were a great place for a walk, and in the summer, they seem like a lovely place to go on a beautiful day. When I visited Stamford it was in the off-season, so I did not need a parking pass/permit, however, during the summer months you will need to purchase a day pass to park at the beach. For non-Stamford residents, the passes are around $40 per car, which is a little pricy for an individual, but a relatively good deal for a family or group of friends. You can purchase these passes at the entrance to the beaches.

Stamford Museum & Nature Center

Once the summer home of department store founder Henri Bendel, the Stamford Museum boasts numerous changing exhibits throughout the year. Depending when you visit, you might admire art by Gutzon Borglum or examine a selection of historic farming tools. Or, you could try your hand at creating something impressive out of recycled materials in the RecycledReCreations Makerspace.

The mansion’s crowning glory, though, consists of marble statues decorating the hilltop garden overlooking Lake Laurel. Hit the spacious walking trails first. The “Wheels in the Woods Trails” are designed to look nice and offer accessibility to everyone, including those in wheelchairs or pushing walkers or strollers.

Take time to bird-watch and enjoy the calming sounds of the babbling brook. Once your kids catch sight of the spectacular playground, designed so kids can see nature from an animal’s point of view, you’ll be here for hours. They’ll have a chance to crawl through a hollow log and perch in a giant bird’s nest.

Make sure to leave time for a visit to the center’s Heckscher Farm, a working New England farm stocked with chickens, sheep, goats, and horses. This is also home to the seasonal Maple Sugar House.

Admire The First Presbyterian Church

10 Top

One of the ethereal places in Stamford is the First Presbyterian Church, located at 1101 Bedford Street.

It was designed by Wallace K. Harrison, a renowned architecture.

It boasts a highly unusual shape, which leads to the nickname “The Fish Church.”

The Nestle Carillon, initially of 36 bells but now of 56-bell carillon, can be found nestling comfortably in the towering 260-foot-tall Maguire Memorial Tower.

The humungous stained-glass windows of the sanctuary which has more than 20,0000 pieces of faceted glass depicting the moving story of Crucifixion and the Resurrection are something that never fails to impress the visitors.

This church is a fine example of modernist architecture, offering a serenely spiritual experience.
