Kayentas Coyote Gulch Art Village

Explore Historic Downtown & Town Square Park
Downtown St George is full of history, art, and culture with a number of museums, historic buildings, and art galleries. While the city was settled in 1861, these new occupants were far from the first.
The earliest residents known to live in the area were the Virgin River Anasazi, who lived here from around 200 B.C. until 1200 A.D. These were followed by the Pauite Tribe then later the first European settlers, the Dominguez-Escalante Party in 1776. Its therefore unsurprising that there is such a rich history to be discovered here in St George.
You can learn more about the history of St George in one of its many museums. It is also a beautiful place to have a stroll in the evening, admiring the old buildings and art sculptures dotted about. You will also find plenty of shops and restaurants in downtown St George. Below are some spots in Downtown St George that you dont want to miss that are all in easy walking distance of each other!
Pioneer Courthouse
The historic Pioneer Courthouse was built in 1876 and over the years has been used as a courthouse, jail, school, and offices. In 1970 the building was added to the National Historic Registry. Today the courthouse is open to the public for free tours. Inside you can find out more about the history of St George as well as see original paintings of Zion National Park and Grand Canyon.

St George Utah Temple
Occupying a complete city block, this impressive and imposing building is a must-see in St. George.
Work was begun on the temple in 1872 and finished five years later. Only members of the Mormon faith are permitted in the temple, however, there is an on-site visitor center open to the general public.
The grounds of the temple are open and feature many mature and beautiful trees and flowering plants, which are particularly beautiful in spring.
The temple is easily located from anywhere in town due to its shimmering white appearance. Up close, the building is massive, more than 110,000 square feet inside, rising up to a peak of 175 feet.

Best Things To Do In St George Utah: Glitter Mountain
With much of the afternoon remaining, we decided to visit Glitter Mountain, aka Sparkle Mountain, aka Glitter Pit, aka The Old Gypsum Mine.
It is located on public land but a local rock shop owns claim rights to the area which means they are the only ones who can mine the area.
They welcome visitors but ask people to collect only small souvenir rocks from the ground .
What is Glitter Mountain?
Glitter Mountain is about five miles down a dirt BLM road and is an old gypsum mine. The gypsum we saw here was milky to clear rock that actually glittered with the sunlight. For this reason, I would recommend visiting on a sunny day.
I think of drywall when I hear gypsum so I was surprised the stone looked like quartz to my untrained eye.
Gypsum is traditionally used in fertilizers and building materials.
Glitter Mountain is just over the Arizona border and was a cute detour in our day of exploration.

St George Botanical Garden
St. George Botanical Garden presents visitors with an array of plant life that can be found in the southwestern part of Utah.
It is truly a sight to see regardless if youre just looking for a place to enjoy some shade or want to learn about the areas history and natural ecology.
St. George Botanical Garden is where youll find plants indigenous to St. George, such as the banana yucca and St. George spiny poppy plus, there are beautiful blooms from spring until fall that will enthrall any nature fan!

Little Black Mountain Petroglyph
The Little Black Mountain Petroglyph is located near the border between Utah and Arizona. A brief, but moderate hike of around 1 mile will take visitors through a maze of stone, revealing some beautiful ancient petroglyphs as well as a view of several pretty nature in the area.

Tuacahn Center For The Arts
Have you ever wanted to see New York street-urchin musical NEWSIES! while sitting under the stars at the mouth of Padre Canyon? Well, never fear, Tuacahn is here. Tuacahn Center for the Arts is the home of Broadway in the desert, an arts organization that has performances of Disney musicals, touring bands and family-friendly comedians at their outdoor amphitheatre.

How Do You Find Cheap Rv Diesel
We use a fleet discount program and the GasBuddy app to find cheap RV diesel. After spending a few weeks along rural highways, we hadnt seen diesel below $2 per gallon and had chosen to travel the interstate to our next stop so we could fill up with cheap RV diesel.
We stopped along I-15 and paid $1.94/gallon with our fleet discount program. The cheapest diesel we had seen in Utah was $2.14 and steadily rising as we got further off the beaten path.
We also utilized the water fill at the truck stop to top off our water tank in preparation for our next destination, BLM public lands in the Dixie National Forest near Bryce Canyon National Park.
Brigham Young Winter Residence
Brigham Young, regarded as a Mormon icon and pioneer who brought inhabitants to Utah in the last winter of his life, lived at this building, with its wraparound deck and porch in addition to a white picket fence which was situated in a calm neighborhood of St. George.
Admission into the house is free, and also experienced museum guides will give more information about the property, Brigham Youthful in person, his influence on the Mormon faith, as well as the historical relevance of the home and its furnishings.
The house is open during the winter from 9 am to 5 pm and until 7 pm during summer. On Sundays, it opens a little later at 1 pm.

Topography Of St George Utah
St. George has unusual topography as most ridges have black or grey rock deposits and dense red rock.
It is because the stones are primarily influenced by iron oxide. It means that the rocks undergo a chemical reaction in which exposure to air makes the iron change its color.
Developers of the city have cut roads through these cliffs and paved the route to the citys outskirts. The aerial view provides us with glances of red sedimentary rock carved into mesas and narrow canyons.
Scenic Drive Through Kolob Canyon
Kolob Canyon is technically a part of Zion National Park, but it is a completely different entrance just a few miles outside of Cedar City, Utah. It is the perfect place to go for a scenic drive and it is actually mind blowing! There are a few hikes to do here as well. I try to visit this area every time I visit the St. George area and you cant miss it!
