Rosedale Farms & Vineyards

TripAdvisor

Now into its fifth generation, this farm has been growing top-quality produce for more than a century.

It would be impossible to list all of the fruit and vegetables available seasonally at the farm stand, but for the briefest summary theres rhubarb, berries, carrots, cucumber, eggplants, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, broccoli, peaches, watermelon and cantaloupe.

In summer theres a sunflower maze to solve, and the stand has a range of delicious pies baked from scratch using ingredients from the farm.

The vineyards grow red grapes like Marquette, St. Croix, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese, and whites like Bianca, Meynieu, Seyval Blanc, Chardonnay and Traminette for a line-up of award-winning wines.

You can stop by all summer up to the end of October to enjoy a bottle paired with local cheese or treats from the farm stand.

Campbell Falls State Park Connecticut

Campbell Falls State Park was developed in 1923 in cooperation between Massachusetts and Connecticut in order to protect the magnificent fall and the surrounding forest. Before entering Connecticut, the Whitney River drops almost 100 feet within the park. The river winds through a narrow gorge changing the direction of the flow twice, zigzagging to the left first and then to the right.

This rugged form of waterfall is not common in New England. It is magnificent any time of the year, but more so in the early spring, when the snow is melting. The view is awe-inspiring, and it takes visitors by surprise as the surrounding forest grows on the gentle terrain. The park is left in its natural state and there are no facilities for visitors.

Silver Sands State Park Milford

Simsbury CT, West Simsbury, Real Estate, Realtor, things ...

Everyone’s favorite pastime in Silver Sands State Park on Charles Island is looking for the Captain Kidd’s buried treasure. As the story goes, the naughty captain hid his treasure under the sand in 1699 and never came to reclaim it. In high tide, the narrow sand bar that connects the island to the mainland becomes submerged.

Once inhabited, the island was abandoned after hurricane Diane destroyed most of the homes in 1955. All that is left today are the ruins of a Catholic retreat that closed in the 1930s. The park has a beautiful long boardwalk and is popular spot for swimming and fishing. From May 1st to the end of August the island is left to the birds as it is a favorite nesting ground for egrets and herons.

MLK Jr’s time in Simsbury, Connecticut

The first time I visited Simsbury, I was enamored with the beauty and history of this charming New England town. Located 14.5 miles west of Hartford in the Farmington Valley, it is close to the state’s capitol and the airport, but feels worlds away. The rural and rustic charm has just enough of a cosmopolitan edge to make it a very desirable place to live and visit.

Just ask Money Magazine, who has included Simsbury on their list of “Best Places to Live” in America several times. Outdoor enthusiasts flock here, as it was given the honor of the first “Bike Friendly Town” in Connecticut by the American League of Cyclists. The nearly 24,000 residents have a lot to be proud of with great schools, history, accessibility and scenic terrain. The town offers numerous activities for children, and here are some suggestions.

2. Abigail’s Grille For almost 200 years, this tavern has been greeting guests and oozing ye old New England charm. It was built in 1780 as a stagecoach stop outside Hartford on the Boston to Albany Turnpike. The food is good – not great, but the bones of this restaurant and the several working fireplaces are worth a trip. There are also rumors that a ghost roams the tavern, so why not investigate?

Kent Falls State Park

About 4.5 miles from the village of Kent, in the beautiful Litchfield Hills, the easy but steep Kent Falls Trail will take you across a quaint covered bridge, and after about quarter mile you will start feeling the cool mist of the falling water. The clear water of a mountain stream falls 250 feet into a dark pool in a series of falls before it spills into Housatonic River.

Even before you reach the falls, you will find three observation decks that offer spectacular views. Kent Falls park is great trout fishing spot and has several pleasant picnic areas. The best times to visit the falls is spring when the melting snow dramatically increases the amount of falling water, and in the fall, when the trees turn on their spectacularly colorful show.
