Visit A Museum After Hours

Staycation getaway in our own backyard a weekend in San Francisco | Japanese Tea Garden

If youre looking for a unique way to see the museums in San Francisco, several museums host nighttime events in the city.

One of the most popular events is the Exploratorium at Night. At this monthly event, the Exploratorium turns into an adults-only science experiment. Theres a bar, DJ, and you have access to all of the permanent science exhibits.

Its a fun way to feel like a kid again, but without any actual kids running around. Their events happen on the first Thursday of every month and tickets go fast, so make sure to book ahead.

Another popular museum for nighttime events is the California Academy of Sciences. Located in Golden Gate Park, this museum hosts weekly nighttime events every Thursday.

Their after-hours nights are usually themed and involve a DJ, full dance floor, as well as access to their main exhibits.

Lastly, Night Bloom at the Conservatory of Flowers is one of the most unique nighttime events in San Francisco.

It only happens for five weeks every winter, but if you happen to be in the city at the right time, its your chance to pretend like you just stepped into Avatar. The main features include sensory-focused rainforest rooms and psychedelic plants.

Bay Area Dumpling Festival

The Chinese Culture Center in partnership with Chinatown Visitor Information Center will be hosting the Bay Area Dumpling Festival on June 28, 2019. Indulge in boiled, steamed, pan-fried, and deep-fried street food by some of Bay Area’s top chefs from 15+ restaurants. There will also be live entertainment, Chinese shadow puppetry, paper cutting and many other cultural activities.

Go Urbex Hunting On Angel Island

Angel Island is located in the middle of the bay, just north of Alcatraz. Its now a state park, but its past is layered with military history. It was a military post during the civil war, an immigration station, a WWII Japanese internment camp and cold war missile site.

Most of the structures related to these military endeavors are abandoned, but the park itself is open for business. Angel Island is also a great activity in SF for hiking and nature, and their trails will give you 360 views of the San Francisco bay.

Tips for Visiting: Take the ferry from Pier 39 and rent bikes on site for a self-guided tour. Bring a lunch and plan to spend the better part of a day exploring the island. Check out this Angel Island State Park guide more information.

Music-lovers should definitely check out this elegant auditorium. You will not be disappointed with whichever show you go for at The Fillmore. With impressive acoustics and a capacity of only a thousand seats, it promises an intimate experience with the artist.

The best thing about this concert venue is that it also doubles as a museum. The Fillmore has been home to shows of every genre since its opening in 1965, with former artists having included Metallica, Prince and B.B. King.

Visit One Of The Citys Many Museums

Theres truly something for everyone when it comes to San Franciscos great museums. The California Academy of Sciences celebrates the world of natural science. The Exploratorium offers hands-on learning for children and adults alike. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art holds one of the largest collections of modern art in the United States. The city also provides opportunities to learn about San Franciscos rich history at the San Francisco Railway Museum and the Cable Car Museum, and individual cultures at the Museum of African Diaspora and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.

San Franciscos cable cars were built in the late 19th century to respond to the citys notoriously steep hills, and theyre still transporting people today as the only working system of cable cars left in the world. Three separate cable car lines run through the city streets: the Powell-Mason Line, the Powell-Hyde Line, and the California Line. Both Powell lines take off from the same hub at Union Square and continue to the Fishermans Wharf area, while the California line starts at California and Market and climbs up to Van Ness Avenue.

Exclusive Interview with CG – MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 has arrived!!! Pro tips free of charge

Street art is not hard to find in the city of San Francisco but there is one street in Mission District that is filled with some amazing works. During our girls weekend in San Francisco, we drove to Mission District for a do-it-yourself art walk. We started with the Clarion Alley. Clarion Alley runs one block in San Franciscos inner Mission District between 17th & 18th and Mission and Valencia streets.

Clarion Alley Mural Project was established in 1992 by a volunteer collective of six residents and artists, who were inspired by the murals of Balmy Alley. Although the neighborhood is a little gritty, it was pretty safe for us to walk around and find the different murals.

Napa Or Sonoma Valley

Things To Do In San Francisco This Weekend, Dec 15th

There are more than 400 wineries in Napa Valley, one of the worlds premier wine regions which in my books means multiple trips to try all that famous and prized Cabernet Sauvignon.

See our family trip to Napa here when we managed to find some kid friendly things to do.

Another wine region that makes for a great day trip from San Francisco is Sonoma Valley. Sonoma is a neighbor to Napa valley, and home to a whole new world of wineries. Wind through wine country on a vespa stopping for sips at the many wineries. We love the Jordon winery here! Stop at Oxbow Public Market, they gather the best of the bay area food and sundries under one, giant roof.

If window-shopping is your thing, Union Square is for you. Considered San Franciscos Crown Jewel of shopping districts, the Square is perfect for real shoppers, as well as those simply curious to see what is there.

Saks Fifth Avenue sits on one side of the Square, while Macys sits opposite. If nothing else, you can sit and do some pretty epic people watch here.

Okay, if youre not into shopping, this might be one left towards the tail end, once you run out of other free things to do in San Francisco.

A picture of the Golden Gate Bridge at night time is something youll want to capture. Its one of the most photographed landmarks in San Francisco, and iconic in history.

With 746-foot tall towers and its notable orange colour, this suspension bridge is truly magnificent.

There are different spots to go to get the best view of the bridge, such as Baker Beach, Fort Point National Historic Site, Crissy Field. One of the best views of the bridge at night would be at Battery Spencer.

Its a short 0.25-mile walk to get to the viewpoint. There youll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the glowing bridge and the San Francisco skyline at night.

Psst Because youll be rather high up, it can get rather chilly. So, take a warm jacket with you. Also, its dark, dont forget to take a flashlight.

54 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in San Francisco

Remember listening to the ocean through a shell? Now imagine if that shell was a massive organ.

The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture on a jetty in San Francisco Bay, designed to magnify the sounds of the sea.

Activated by the air pressure created by the waves movement, this collection of pipes plays a deep, gurgling, restless melody that is both calming and eerie.

The Wave Organ is best enjoyed on a windy day when the waves are high, but even if theres not much of a sea breeze going, its worth the trip to see this incredible piece of architecture and listen to natures music.
