Seal Watching In La Jolla
Built in the 1930s behind a wave-cutting seawall, La Jollas Childrens Pool was created as a family beach but has since been invaded by herds of seals and sea lions. Tourists come in droves to see them larking around, swimming, fighting and mating, viewed from the plaza above the cove. There’s strictly no touching, feeding or selfies to be taken with the residents these are wild animals and visitors must give them space. The future of the seals remains in debate: divers and swimmers claim the mammals’ presence increases bacteria levels in the water animal-rights groups want to protect the cove and make it an official seal rookery.

How To Buy Tickets On Craigslist Without Getting Scammed
To minimize the chance of falling for a scam, do the following:
1. Ask for a phone number to call them back. If they won’t provide one, don’t do business with them.
2. Tell them they will need to provide an ID and a bill of sale. That will scare most scammers away.
3. Don’t buy plastic gift cards without a store receipt showing they were actually purchased.
4. Meet in a public place like a fast food restaurant.
5. Bring a cell phone and a friend.
6. Bring a bill of sale and ask them to sign it. Verify their identity with a look at their drivers license.
7. Trust your instincts. If you don’t trust the person, don’t buy tickets from them.
8. Maybe your friend can snap a photo with the cell phone, just in case .

Have A Date Night At Rooftop Cinema Club
I absolutely love rooftop cinemas!
I went to quite a few when I was living in Europe, so I was excited to find out that San Diego has started doing them too through the Rooftop Cinema Club.
They play everything from cult classics to recent movies, and youll get your personal set of headphones, city views, cozy blankets, and a selection of food and drinks to enjoy while watching the film.
The Rooftop Cinema Club actually has a few locations around the US now , including LA, Houston, and New York, and their popularity only continues to grow.
I cant think of a better city than San Diego to have a rooftop cinema because the weather is gorgeous year-round. Plus, its a fun romantic thing to do in the city if youre looking for a good date night idea.

Spend A Day And Night Out In North Park
Although my Pacific Beach nights out are mostly over now since Im not 22 anymore, North Park is the place for young professionals or artistic types that still enjoy going out, but with slightly fewer college-aged kids.
North Park is thought of as the hipster neighborhood of San Diego and it has a fun and quirky side that is easy to fall in love with. If I ever move back to San Diego, Im convinced I would move here.
I saw one of my favorite concerts ever in North Park at the wonderful old Birch North Park Theatre, and the bars offer a little bit of everything for whatever style of nightlife youre going for.
Its a good neighborhood to check out if youre spending the weekend in San Diego and you want to explore some of the best San Diego nightlife.
One of my favorite bars in North Park is Seven Grand, a whiskey bar that hosts live music and has black and white movies playing on a loop. Oh, and the bartenders look like they just stepped out of the 1920s.
Seven Grand has a full wall of whiskey, taking up 15 pages on their drink menu, with the top shelf reached by a rolling ladder.
A close runner up, if you want more of a dive bar atmosphere where you can watch hipsters simultaneously drink Pabst Blue Ribbon, is Bar Pink.
Bar Pink hosts a lot of live music and DJs that usually play R& B and Hip Hop. As to be expected, there is a lot of pink around the bar and tipsy elephants in martini glasses keeping it classy.
Browse The Tuna Harbor Dockside Market
The Tuna Harbor Dockside Market happens every Saturday from 8 a.m.3 p.m. on a harborside dock on the northern edge of Seaport Village. Its an open-air seafood market offering fresh-caught seafood and aqua-farmed seaweed direct from local fishers and vendors.
This market enables local chefs and the public to get closer to their food sources and understand the value of locally-sourced and sustainable seafood.

Cheer On The Cyclists At San Diego Velodrome
Another Balboa Park attraction, the San Diego Velodromeis a renowned training and racing destination for cyclists.
There are some super talented cyclists that come here to race, so its an impressive sight to be able to see them do their thing on the track.
Although you can stop by the Velodrome to watch the cyclists at any point of the year, April through September is racing season at the Velodrome and every Tuesday you can see a race for free.
And if you dont want to just be a spectator, the Velodrome offers track cycling lessons every Monday and Wednesday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Visit The Uss Midway Museum
Located in the heart of the Embarcadero, the focus of the USS Midway Museum is the Midway itself. Its a vintage Navy aircraft carrier that was the largest ship globally until 1955 and was decommissioned in 1992. Its permanently docked now at Navy Pier.
Today, visitors may walk throughout the aircraft carrier, either as part of a guided tour, on a self-guided audio tour, or even unguided by anything other than eyesight and wonder. It is one of the most unique museums in the world and especially meaningful to families with members who have served in our nations military. Plus, kids love climbing into the helicopters and jets on the top deck of this San Diego museum.

Visit with my discounted price. The USS Midway Museum is also included on the Go San Diego sightseeing pass.

See A Show At The La Jolla Playhouse
Located on the UCSD campus and showcasing talented acts throughout the year, the La Jolla Playhouse is a non-profit theater that is worth seeing a show at if youre in northern San Diego county.
Some of the more unique events they offer at the Playhouse are their audience engagement events, such as Talkback Tuesdays and Discovery Sunday where you get to interact with the actors on stage after the performance.
This is a staple in the San Diego theater scene and a fun local event to experience while youre in town.
Spend Your Saturday Morning At The Mercato Street Market
There are a lot of farmers markets to take advantage of in San Diego and the Saturday Mercato Street Market in Little Italy is one of the best. Its one of the largest markets in the city and happens from 8 am to 2 pm every Saturday, rain or shine.
Its also one of the best things to do in Little Italy to get a feel for the communal nature of this neighborhood.
At the market, youll find over 200 tents full of local produce, crafts, and food stalls. Theres also live music. Its a good Saturday event to attend in San Diego, even if you dont plan on buying anything.

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve preserves the last mainland stands of the Torrey pine , a species adapted to sparse rainfall and sandy, stony soils. Steep sandstone gullies have eroded into wonderfully textured surfaces, and the views over the ocean and north, including whale-watching, are jaw-droppingly superb. Several easy trails wind through the reserve and down to the beach.
Go From Land To Sea On A Seal Tour
How about the thrill of a combined land and sea tour? Narrated SEAL Tours allows you to see the sights along the streets of San Diego. Then, the amphibious bus-boat vehicle plunges into the waters of the San Diego Bay. The signature cartoon seal painted on the side is appropriate because youre likely to see seals and sea lions.
SEAL Tours depart from both Seaport Village and further up the Embarcadero. Theyre a must-do when visiting Downtown San Diego with kids.

Balboa Park On A Budget
Balboa Park is a must-see when youre in town, but if you add up entry into all the museums in the park, it can get expensive pretty quickly. Luckily, there are many experiences throughout the park which are free.
Exploring the park itself is free of charge, and there are all kinds of street performers and interesting people out and about while youre enjoying the beautiful scenery.
There are plenty of walking trails and gardens all over the park, as well as the Timken Museum of Art a small art museum with a great collection and free entry. There is the Spreckles Organ Pavilion which hosts free organ concerts on Sundays, and if youre visiting in March-October, check out the International Houses on Sundays.
