Wolf Trap Holiday Sing

One of our favorite family events of the season is the holiday sing-a-long at Wolf Trap, featuring the U. S. Marine Band and other vocal groups. This year the free event is streaming online so you can join in the sing-a-long from home. There are two different performances on two nights so why not join them both.

Best Things To Do In Reston Virginia

Founded in 1964 and heavily influenced by the Garden City Movement, Reston was designed to successfully combine green spaces, commercial areas and suburban neighborhoods. The best place to observe the success of the design is the Reston Town Center and the beautiful Van Gogh Bridge on the Green Trail walking/hiking path. Other very pleasant areas for a walk include the Thoreau Loop Trail and the short trails at the Walker Nature Center. Cultural attractions include the Reston Regional Library, the ArtInsights Film Art Gallery and the Center Stage Theater. You can satisfy your inner Foodie at Sweet Green, La Madeleine and Coopers Hawk Winery and Restaurant. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Some restaurants are currently offering pickup only. Hours/availability may have changed.

Bike The Washington & Old Dominion Trail

Known as the skinniest park in Virginia, the Washington & Old Dominion Trail is a wonderful rails-to-trails conversion maintained by NOVA Parks. The paved bike trail stretches from the quaint town of Purcellville to Arlington, and about 5 miles traverse Reston.

The Reston stretch of the W& OD passes near several of the places on this list, so you could plan a bike-centric visit . The trail is also a fun place for cross-country skiing after a snowstorm.

The Reston segment of the W& OD includes a parallel bridle trail that is a nice option for hikers. The paved trail gets very busy on weekends when fast-moving bikes compete for space with families out for a stroll. If you’re on foot and you don’t mind hills and an uneven dirt surface, stick to the bridle trail. It’s also generally shadier in summer.
