Northern Nevada International Dragon Boat Festival

Last years races were a total hoot, so dont miss this second chance to see it. It features a Chinese tradition being brought to the Truckee Meadows, as 20-person teams power canoes decorated with dragon heads. The canoes have to race 500 meters across the marina, all while drummers pound out a rhythm for rowing. Funds raised go to Immunize Nevada.

During the first day, we will discuss and practice patterns and color combinations that work well for marbled silk scarves. Students will have ample practice time to experiment and develop their vision in the standard marbling tray before moving on to the large scarf tray. Day two, we will prepare two 20 x 72 trays for the silk. Students will take turns on these trays to execute each scarf with the assistance of the instructor.

The McKinley Arts and Culture Center is located in what was once the McKinley Park School.

The building was renovated and converted in 1999 in order to house this center and its auditorium, boardroom, workshops, galleries, and offices.

In this two-day intensive, students will work with basic drawing skills, contour lines, loose gridding, and blocking techniques to layout the portraits on wooden panels. Hot August Nights Officially Revs Up In Reno/sparks

RENO, Nev. – Classic cars, cruises and drag races. Hot August Nights officially kicks off Tuesday in Reno and Sparks after being canceled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year we were down, said classic car owner Matt Ames. Werent able to do it and stuff so everybody is getting anxious. They want to be out here and be able to do it. These cars, we dont want these cars to be a thing of the past anymore. But its getting to the point that the older cars of the generations are going to be gone. So we need to keep this going and this venue here is whats going to keep it going.

Its the 34th year for the event which draws thousands of spectators and participants to northern Nevada annually.

The event begins with raffles and giveaways, followed by classic car displays, Show-and-Shines, a craft fair and the Cruse of Champions at the Atlantis Casino Resort.

There will also be live entertainment on the outdoor stage at the Grand Sierra Resort and in Sparks.

The Rancho San Rafael Park is the largest of its kind in all of Reno, spanning across hundreds of acres.
