Am Chow Down At Historic Village Diner

How To Pass Your Road Test – NYC – Red Hook – Part 1

No Hudson Valley day trip is complete without a trip to a diner. Fortunately, Red Hook has a roadside eatery that fulfills all your breakfast dreams. Walk through the door of the metallic railroad car edifice and youll feel like you journeyed back to the 1950s. Order any of the classics or ask about the daily pastry specials. The gourmet cakes taste even better than they look.

Pm Stock The Pantry At Greig Farm In Red Hook

Red Hook is fortunate enough to house one of the Hudson Valleys premier foodie farms. Bring the kids to the fields for pick-your-own fruits and veggies to bring home. If you are pressed for time, direct your attention to the farm market instead. The marketplace serves both breakfast and lunch daily and doles out dinner to go. While youre there, you might even catch an impromptu string concert from some of the valleys talented performers.

Pm Nightcap At Sunnys

I have never been able to figure out why ice cream makes you so thirsty. If youve been hydrating all day, youll be in the mood for one more brewsky before you call it quits. Sunnys is Red Hooks staple literally, its been here since the 1890s. Its gone through different owners and Sunny has passed away . Somehow, often by the skin of its teeth, the bar stays open. Its a classic dive bar the decor is longshoremen complete with knick-knacks and bluegrass. Theres a large outdoor patio/ smoking section, an array of great bartenders and cheap drinks. It seems that every time I am there, its someones birthday. Thats the kind of place this is. Its also the kind of place you run into random acquaintances or celebrities on their off hours. For a dive bar, it feels like an event. Its the type of bar and community that people are searching for when they move to Brooklyn. By the time you take a car service home, you may be scrolling Streeteasy for Red Hook listings. I cant say Id blame you.

If there is one restaurant you must try when in Red Hook, Flatiron Steakhouse is it. Owners, Craig Stafford and Jessica Stingo, are committed to supporting local farms as much as possible. Ingredients like vegetables, ground beef and lamb are sourced from local farms, while the other items on the menu, such as bread and dessert, are made in-house. The American-style restaurant and bar also get their beer from local breweries and bring in small production wines and liquors from within the area.

Ten Things I Wish I Knew When I Started The Halo Infinite Campaign

Halo Infinite

A year delay, and here we are. Halo Infinite has arrived, with its campaign debuting three weeks after the early launch of its multiplayer. For the first time, Master Chief has a truly open world to explore, and is also dipping a metal toe into RPG territory with some upgrades for his equipment.

I beat the full campaign about two weeks ago after Microsoft gave me access to a review build, but I am starting over from scratch today. Now, I am armed with knowledge I wish I had before all this, and I am here to share that with you too.

Here are ten things I wish I knew when I started Halo Infinite.

Max Grappling Hook Immediately I cannot tell you how often youll be using the grappling hook in this game. Id be amazed if you had it active less than 90% of the time. Upgrade it to max immediately. Lower levels will reduce its cooldown to almost nothing and higher levels turn it into an AOE melee slam that can melt entire groups of enemies at once. Its wild.

Open Gates In Bases There are a number of walled up enemy bases around the map that need Master Chief to blow them up, but you can get some help in doing this. While Master Chief can zip up over a wall, use that opportunity to open an external gate. This well let in the cluster of marines that follow you, and it also opens the door for you to roll in with a Warthog or Tank or Ghost or something, which you cant do with the gates up.

Bizarre Foods #1 – NY – Red Hook ( Brooklyn )

Youll notice the famous orange door first at Baked, Red Hooks iconic bakery. Inside youll find some beautiful cakes, brownies and homemade treats. Everything is made from scratch on the premises, including a delicious granola. If youre lucky, they will be handing out samples of their salted caramel brownies, and you will debate about getting a whole one to go. Pm Discover Pioneer Works

Pioneer Works is exactly the thing missing from most cool neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Its a gallery/ studio / community space, a garden, and a publisher with a nearby bookstore. Every month, the enormous downstairs space transforms into a free party with Second Sundays that brings the whole neighborhood to the yard. Through August 26th, you can trek up to the third floor to see a small show by filmmaker and photographer, John Lucas and writer, Claudia Rankine called Stamped, which explores the concept of blondeness. Afterward, enter the secret garden through the wide gates next to the building. Inside, youll find covered paths, tunnels, flowers, an airstream, a coffee bar, and an actual tank that has been meticulously covered in rainbow beads by artist, Ralph Ziman. In other words, there is much to explore here. You can meander through and pick one of many benches on which to rest.

Pm Chocolate & Whiskey At Cacao Prieto

Step off the beaten path of Van Brunt, and down to Cacao Prieto, a behemoth distillery and chocolate factory. This is no silly Wonka world though, its for foodies. At 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays there is a chocolate and distillery tour which I reviewed last year. A tour guide will lead you through the bowels of this clean new building, where youll see the chocolate being processed into artisanal candy bars. Out in the back garden, youll notice the chickens squawking, and youll be forgiven for feeling like you are upstate. In the last room, the shiny machines are making rum and whiskey. The tour lasts about an hour, or you can skip it just do a flight tasting of Widow Jane in the front a la carte. Tours: $20/ per person.

What To Do Near Red Hook

Treasure Island Storage Red Hook Hours

If you only plan on spending part of a day exploring what to do in Red Hook and want to add on exploring the nearby neighborhoods, we recommend exploring both Carroll Gardens and Gowanus which are a short walk from Red Hook.

Carroll Gardens

This is one of the most beautiful, residential neighborhoods in Brooklyn! There are tons of great things to do in Carroll Gardens including walking up and down the pretty streets if you love pretty homes and architecture or all the shopping, dining, and drinking options up and down Court Street and Smith Street.

This is one of those neighborhoods thats easy for me to spend at least a few hours in just moseying around. Its also easy to cover the neighborhoods of Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill from here too, which are both very beautiful and have a very similar vibe to Carroll Gardens.

Gowanus

If you loved what Red Hook had to offer, youll probably enjoy all the things to do in Gowanus too. This industrial neighborhood has a thriving arts scene with cool indie galleries, great restaurants, multiple breweries, BBQ spots, a shuffleboard spot, a rock-climbing room, ax throwing, and so much more.

Things To Do In Red Hook Brooklyn

I dont get tired of repeating how much New York City surprises me. One of the things that I love about this city is knowing that there is always something new to do. Almost every weekend, Thiago and I try to do something different: eating in a restaurant that we havent been to yet or exploring an unknown area. Today, I wanna share some tips on what to do in Red Hook, Brooklyn a neighborhood usually not listed on the tourist guides and can be a perfect getaway for locals or, why not tourists.

To the southwest of Carroll Gardens, beyond the BQE, the formerly rough-and-tumble industrial locale of Red Hook remains a secluded neighborhood, thanks to the lack of subway stops, which makes it perfect for a day out exploring. If you never heard about Red Hook, it is where Ikea is located but the famous furniture shopping is not the only interesting place there. The quiet streets with cobblestones make you feel in a small country town. The area has restaurants and factories perfect for a tasting-day. Because of the lack of nearby subway stations, the most convenient and fast way to get to Red Hook is Water Taxi or NYC Ferry. Also, the views of Manhattan are fantastic! I would definitely recommend this place for a summer day, but you can also explore Red Hook during wintertime as well.

Now, lets check 10 recommendations on things to do in Red Hook!
