Sarah Bush Johnson Lincoln Memorial Cabin
The Sarah Bush Johnson Lincoln Memorial Cabin was built in 1992, in an effort to preserve the history and memories of the early days of the Lincoln family. The memorial cabin is constructed using hand-hewn timber logs which were 122 year old. The dimensions and style of this simple log cabin are very similar to the actual cabin in which the widow Sarah Bush Johnson was living with her 3 children before she married Thomas Lincoln in 1819, becoming stepmother to Abe Lincoln and his sister Sarah. The cabin is very authentic, offering visitors a glimpse into the past furnishings, house wares and décor has been carefully chosen to reflect life during the Johnson-Lincoln era.

Fort Duffield Park & Historic Site

Well see that this area was on a key supply route for the Union Army in the Civil War, both by rail along the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and the turnpike of the same name.
To protect these supply lines the Union Army established this fort in 1861, on high ground by the Ohio River outside of West Point.
Requiring around six weeks of construction, the fort was never challenged and had actually been abandoned by the time of the Confederate Morgans Raid across the Ohio River in the summer of 1863.
The earthworks of this star-shaped fort are remarkably intact, and visiting the site youll be in no doubt of its strategic value. An understated memorial with stone markers and a small granite monument pays tribute to the 61 soldiers who died while in service at the fort.

Almost exactly 40 years later The State closed down, much to the disappointment of the Elizabethtown community.
