Things To Do In Old Town Scottsdale This Weekend

Historic Old Town Walking Tour

Reopening in Old Town Scottsdale

If you want to learn more about the history of the Old Town, then a walking tour is a great way to do it. There are Historic Old Town Walking Tours happening in Old Town, which can either be self-guided or guided by a local expert. Best of all, both of these options are completely free.

During a Historic Old Town Walking Tour, you can see sights such as Frank Lloyd Wrights private living quarters, and then explore the citys newest restaurants to discover all the flavors of Scottsdale.

What Is Old Town Scottsdale

Located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona, Old Town is simply a term used to refer to a large chunk of the historic downtown area.

Its the part of Scottsdale thats filled with pedestrian-friendly streets lined with popular restaurants, quaint tourist shops, posh condos, public monuments, and world-class art galleries.

From Chaparral Road to Earll Drive and Miller Road to 65th Street, Old Town encompasses Scottsdale Fashion Square mall, Civic Center Park and Library, the citys spring-training ballpark, the Museum of the West, and dozens of restaurants and shops.

Though Old Town Scottsdale is sometimes referred to as Downtown Scottsdale, the area is officially branded as Old Town in order to attract more local and nationwide visitors to this historic core.

Scottsdale Museum Of Contemporary Art

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art , a major attraction in the Scottsdale Civic Center neighborhood, offers guests a peek into the world of contemporary art and design. The curated exhibits are inspiring and challenge your artistic thought process.

The museum is just under a mile from Hotel Valley Ho a living work of Midcentury Modern design, a style that preceded the minimalist design of SMoCA. Walking from Hotel Valley Ho to the museum is an interesting hop on the timeline of design.

Pro Tip: If all that walking has you hungry, stop by Los Olivos Mexican Patio, a little place with tasty Mexican food right across the street from SMoCA.

Whether youre in town for a golf vacation, sightseeing excursion, or Scottsdale girls weekend getaway, you can spend anywhere from 1-3 touring Old Town and not run out of things to do.

Because of the close proximity of the various restaurants and attractions here, its best to just park your car in one spot or Uber in, and walk around from place to place.

Here is our list of the top 9 best things to do in Old Town Scottsdale!

Go Tasting On The Scottsdale Wine Trail

Scottsdale Artwalk http://ow.ly/pziw302Fbzk #scottsdaleartwalk2016 ...

The Scottsdale Wine Trail is a collaboration of 5 Arizona wineries that have come together to offer an authentic Arizona wine tasting experience.

  • Carlson Creek Tasting Room
  • Aridus Wine Company

Each winery has a tasting room that features plenty of unique Arizona wines to try and buy.

In addition, dont miss a chance to feast on the locally sourced charcuterie boards and other small bites found at our favorite, Merkin Vineyards.

Additional planning tip: The Scottsdale Wine Trail features an official passport that can be purchased at any of the five wineries for $5.

Passport holders receive $2.00 off a 5-wine tasting at each location and a Scottsdale Wine Trail commemorative wine glass.

Some tasting rooms have seasonal hours, so be sure to check before you visit.

Day : Feed Your Soul With Art And The Outdoors

If you stayed in central Scottsdale your first night, then start off your day appreciating some of the great art throughout Scottsdale.

Stroll through Old Town to see some of Scottsdale’s numerous public art installations. Follow this self-guided public art walking tour to see some of the best in about an hour.

You also can stop in to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art , which is a small but very thoughtful contemporary art museum in Old Town Scottsdale. Exhibits change a couple times per year, so check out their website to see what’s currently on.

For lunch, try Kale & Clover or Flower Child for healthy midday bites.

If you want to get some fresh air this afternoon, you could consider heading to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a 30,500-acre nature preserve where 5 major trailheads connect to more than 200 miles of desert hiking trails. It’s only about 20 minutes from Scottsdale, and on the way to CIVANA, where I recommend spending the next 2 nights.

One caveat for the Sonoran Preserve: IF you’re visiting in summer, I don’t recommend going on a strenuous hike in the middle of the day. It will just be too hot. You can still stop by, though, and maybe just walk the half-mile Nature Trail in order to get your fill of saguaro cacti and desert landscapes.

If you’re visiting in the winter , then you could definitely squeeze in a hike this afternoon.

Afterwards, make your way north to CIVANA. Be prepared to potentially see some epic desert sunsets here.

Visiting The Saguaro Scottsdale

We stumbled upon The Saguaro Scottsdale by accident one morning .

The Saguaro is a funky, wall-art plastered poolside resort known for its lime-green accents and webbed orb lights.

The interior feels like a glitzy motel streaks of purple and pink and orange.

The Saguaro was a bit out of our budget , but I still think its a great photo-op stop whilst visiting Old Town!

Take A Hot Air Balloon Ride

Is taking a hot air balloon ride on your bucket list? If so, Scottsdale is a great place to do it! During my trip, I woke up super early one morning to go hot air ballooning with Hot Air Expeditions. This is definitely one of the most fun things to do in Scottsdale.

Our balloon roared with fire and rose above the desert, floating quietly over the hills, saguaro cactus, and homes in an area near Scottsdale called Carefree Valley. The desert changed from greyscale to a sandy color palette as the sun came up, and we ended the ride with champagne and breakfast in the desert near our landing site.
