One of the more unusual sights in New Jersey is Lucy the Elephant in Margate, a six-story building modeled after a pachyderm. She was constructed in 1881 before the Statue of Liberty by inventor James L. Lafferty, who sought to attract real estate investors to the seaside destination.
After her duties as a giant billboard were completed, she was turned into a tavern, then eventually , as overnight lodging.

The Manasquan Inlet Intracoastal Tug, presented by Jersey Mike’s Subs, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Inlet Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. The event is highlighted by a series of tugs-of-war using a pair of 600-foot ropes linked at the center of the 450-foot-wide Manasquan Inlet. It raises funds for the Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach Recreation Departments, and will be raising funds for Make-A-Wish New Jersey, whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The heats throughout the Intracoastal Tug will feature Manasquan/Monmouth County against Point Pleasant Beach/Ocean County with the Mayor’s Trophy presented to the winner. The day’s festivities are free and open to the public, with festivals on both sides of the inlet. There is a rain date of Sunday.

Visitors of all ages are invited to wear a costume to this fun family event, which includes activities for the kids, games, candy, entertainment, animals, inflatable obstacle course, pirate ship and more.
A Costume Contest will start at 11 a.m., registration begins at 10 a.m. An awards presentation will follow the Halloween costume contest with exciting entertainment and our very own ambassador animals. No Rain Date.
Held at Fox Park in Wildwood from 3 p.m. 6 p.m., adults will decorate their vehicles for Halloween and distribute candy to children in costume from the trunks of their vehicles.
Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated vehicles. Event includes food, DJ entertainment, and more. The event is free for adults and children, but decorated automobiles must be pre-registered.
