See Colorful Trains At The New York Transit Museum

Toddlers are at an age when their interests take on an almost obsessive quality. If you have a toddler that is currently obsessed with trains, the New York Transit Museum is the most exciting NYC toddler activity you can add to your itinerary.

Dedicated to the history of NYCâs public transportation system, the museum is filled with answers to every question a train lover could have. The first sign your toddler will have that his day is about to get very bright is his walk down to the museum which is housed in an actual underground subway station no longer in use. Watch as his face lights up when he sees old trains of every color and description parked on the old tracks. Collections include older wooden models that will seem archaic even to the untrained mind of a toddler.

Bright red trains and models with cool looking seating also call the museum home. Speaking of the trainsâ interiors, visitors get to actually tour the models on show for an experience that is highly interactive. The museum is firstly a history museum so point out interesting facts about the history of NYCâs subway system to older kids who will understand all the information on construction and model types the museum contains. Other interesting memorabilia like ancient subway signs and equipment are also on show.

You can plan your visit at .

Sam Wilkes And Time Wharp

Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at Public Records, 233 Butler Street, Brooklyn publicrecords.nyc.

The influence of Los Angeless experimental underground has been seeping outward for some time, sending Cali-sober vibes and loosefitting, woozy beats into the bloodstream of pop, jazz and electronic music. The Angeleno bassist and producer Sam Wilkess credits leap from Chaka Khan to Maggie Rogers to Dean Blunt, but under his own name he makes live, electrified music thats jammy and warped, from a DIY home studio. He recorded last years One Theme & Subsequent Improvisation piecemeal with four friends, ending up with a chill-but-expeditious, 33-minute LP. Hell share the bill this Saturday with his Leaving Records label-mate Time Wharp , a Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist whose music shows generations of the Golden States influence. Her newest album, Spiro World, bridges elements of Terry Rileys keyed-up minimalism with the proggy delirium of Aja-era Steely Dan, by way of Tsege Mariam Gebrus Ethiopian piano balladry. Tickets are available at dice.fm for $26.17, all included. GIOVANNI RUSSONELLO

Using literacy, music, and Schmittys undeniable charm, they go to local schools and inspire students to study STEM science, technology, engineering, and math. They have visited more than 200 schools and theatres and starred on a number of TV shows, where little Yorkshire terrier Schmitty, the dog with a nose for weather, convinces everyone that science is fun.
