Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum
Robert Hoetink / Shutterstock
Given the rich background of journalist and novelist Ernest Hemingway, its no surprise that the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum is one of the many famous places loved by tourists in Florida.
Though the prolific man lived in many locations over his life, this home in particular has a good deal of importance to it.
Located in Key West, Florida on Whitehead street, this house was moved to by Hemingway in the mid-1920s as he moved from Paris to America at the advice of a friend and soon-to-be-legendary author John Dos Passos.
It was a gift by one of his uncles, evidently above what Hemingway could have been able to afford on his own opulent Spanish-style architecture and luxurious fixings make the house, now, a treat for its design as much as its history.
In this house, Hemingway wrote A Farewell to Arms and parts of other great novels like Green Hills of Africa, Death in the Afternoon, and For Whom the Bell Tolls.
He also got the nickname Papa while living in this house and gained the inspiration for To Have and Have Not.
Now, visitors to the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum get to view over 20 years of memorabilia dating to Hemingways time in the home, from his typewriter to his hunting trophies and more than 50 cats, most of which have extra toes!
Supposedly, these are almost all descended from a six-toed cat that Hemingway owned.

Fort Caroline National Memorial
A short-lived French colony was established by the Huguenots during the French Wars of Religion on the north bank of the St. Johns River in 1564. Fort Caroline was immediately in the sights of the Spanish, who founded St.
Fort Caroline was named in honor of King Charles IX, and during its short existence was ridden with illness, attacked by the Timucuan Indians and ultimately sacked by the Spanish who executed several hundred Huguenots.
The Fort Caroline National Memorial, in the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve, is somewhere to ponder the early years of European exploration, first contact between Europeans and Native Americans and the territorial conflict that beset America in the Early Modern Age.
The forts ditch and earthwork ravelins are intact, and this is also the setting for the visitor center for the whole Timucuan Preserve, open seven days a week.

The Conch Republic: Key West
Key West-one of the best places to visit in Florida for adults seeking a fast-paced weekend getaway is, once experienced, not easily forgotten. Not only is this small tropical island the country’s southernmost city, it’s also one of the most fascinating in terms of its diversity. A heady mix of Caribbean and European influences – along with a large dose of the South for good measure – here, you’ll find an endless array of things to do that titillate the taste buds and entertain the senses.

Along the way, there’s more than enough to keep you busy during your weekend getaway, from Cuban-inspired music and cuisine to shopping in chic art galleries and boutique shops .
Then there are the amazing sunsets, celebrated enthusiastically each evening in Mallory Square with displays of acrobatics and busking. Add to this top Key West attractions such as the Southernmost Point marker and Ernest Hemingway’s House, and you’re guaranteed a weekend getaway you won’t soon forget.
