Spencer Museum of Art is one of the major fine art museums in Kansas. It’s located on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, where you can see the extensive collection of more than 45,000 works of art.
The museum divides into seven galleries. It displays an extensive range of artwork, including American, European, and contemporary art. The art covers all mediums paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, jewelry, and other artifacts.

Bethel College located in North Newton, just 15 miles down highway 135 offers an extensive Mennonite Library and Archives, as well as various activities throughout the year for its students and the community.

- Each June Belleville is filled with antique and classic car enthusiasts who come from all over the Midwest for the Mid America Cruise In/Crossroads Car Show. Spectators enjoy viewing more than 500 antique, classic, and custom cars. In August, the top-name drivers of midget cars from around the world and thousands of race fans gather in Belleville for the Midget Nationals, theIndy 500 of midget car racing. Belleville combines the excitement of dirt track auto racing with the festival atmosphere of the North Central Kansas Free Fair, the largest free fair in Kansas. The fair and midget nationals are held concurrently each year.

Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area

Sedgwick County Zoo Wichita
One of the top attractions in the state of Kansas for families is the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita. Children will be thrilled with over 3,000 animals across 400 species. Highlights include elephants, gorillas, lions, chatty kookaburras, and even tigers.
You can tour the zoo on foot or take the free tram, which runs on the hour with ongoing narration. If you find yourself at the zoo on a weekend, an even better option is to take the boat tour, which leaves every half hour .
Animal interactions are available and include spending time with penguins, rhinos, tortoises, and others for an additional fee. The easiest, and cheapest, animal interaction is giraffe feeding. These gentle giants slowly extend their long necks down to you and grab the vegetables from your hand with their giant tongues.

A battered bowling ball convention would look like Rock City, except these 200 battered, cracked, and scored balls are giant-sized. You can jump into a bar, get a haircut, see what the prisons were like, visit the schools, the church, the stores, and more.

Midland Railroad Hotel: Wilson Kansas
The Midland Railroad Hotel in Wilson, Kansas, is a renovated hotel that appreciates its guests. This property is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1997, the Wilson Foundation purchased this property and underwent a six-year $3.2 million renovation project.
The charming town of Wilson is also home to the Worlds Largest Czech Egg. This historic hotel offers a cozy night of lodging. My room had a bed, desk area, sink, and a bathroom in it. The day before I arrived, a large Kansas barn was moved on site. Today it is an event space and a place for people to gather.
If history interests you, a visit to the Hodgen House Museum Complex is warranted.
Here you can learn about the significance of Czech history in the area and other things that helped shape this area of Kansas. It should not surprise you that I found some of the best bread pudding in the restaurant on the hotels lower level. If you were curious, this hotel is said to be haunted, and I did not have any crazy things happen in my room during my stay.
Hear The Orphan Trains Riders Stories At The National Orphan Train Complex Concordia
At the turn of the last century, impoverished children lived dangerous lives in East Coast cities. To rescue them, charities devised the Orphan Train Movement to rescue children from the streets. They sent them West. Over 75 years, the movement placed about 250,000 children. Over 2 million descendants came from the Orphan Train riders. Concordias National Orphan Train Complex preserves the movements history. The vintage railroad passenger car in the Jones Education Station gives a sense of the children and their chaperones experiences. NOTC also offers research help for those who have orphan train riders in their family trees.

Located in the 1861 limestone Terwilliger Home in Council Grove, Kansas, Trail Days Café and Museum is a blast from the past, a place that will transport you back to the time of the early settlers, Kanza Native Americans, and wagons rolling down the Kansas Trail. Everything around you in the café is a museum piece and the staff is dressed in period costume to get you into the spirit of early American settlers and the hard prairie life. Wwii Pow Camp Concordia
At the start of World War II, the War Department quickly made provisions to build a number of prison camps throughout the Midwest to house captured Germans. In a matter of months, Camp Concordia sprang to life north of Concordia. At its peak, the Camp housed 4,000 German prisoners and 1,000 military and civilian staff. At the end of the war, most of the 308 buildings were dismantled or moved. Today visitors can see the large T-9 warehouse where the POW Museum is located, the concrete water tower base, original stonework at the main entrance and guard tower and T-63 guard post building.

Wamego is all in when it comes to Oz. Even its water tower, painted like a hot air balloon, is Oz-themed. Start your visit to Wamego, the Emerald City of Oz, on Interstate 70s Exit 328.
