Visit Touro Park And Newport Tower

Newport, Rhode Island – Top Ten Things To Do

If you like a good mystery, then dive into some of Newports mystical past at Touro Park. In addition to being a large grassy area surrounded by a cute ritzy neighborhood just a couple blocks from Thames Street, Touro Park is home to the Newport Tower , a stone tower that is plopped in the middle of the park and looks like a poor mans Stonehenge. Just like Stonehenge, no one is quite sure how the Newport Tower got there. Some believe it was built by Norse fishermen while others think it was built by colonial settlers in the 17th century. And despite its nickname as the Old Stone Mill, some arent sure the layout would have been good for a mill either. Take a look at it and see what you think during your day in Newport.

Enjoy A Newport Spa Day

My favorite spa in Newport is the Spa Fjr in the Hotel Viking. I like the menu of features and the relaxing environment so much I bring my office staff there yearly as a Christmas gift. But one of my favorite spa treatments in the world perhaps isnt here. It is the Ocean Breeze Massage in the Spa at the Newport Marriott. It involves a massage and exfoliation, but better yet, a warm cocoon. They have really mastered the fine art of removing the exfoliation while keeping you warm and cozy. So, treat yourself and feel like a member of the old Newport upper crust.

Its not to often you can learn colonial Jewish history. I found visiting this oldest Jewish temple in the United States very interesting.

Dine At The White Horse Tavern

A friend of mine recently suggested a visit here after she had been and thoroughly enjoyed it. I mean who wouldnt want to dine in the oldest operating restaurant in the USA!? This National Historic Landmark is also recognized as the 10th oldest restaurant in the world quite an achievement!

The White Horse Tavern has had its welcoming doors open for over 350 years, serving both locals and visitors. They offer lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch options and after having a quick peek at the menu I already cant wait to make a reservation . PS: the tavern used to be owned by a pirate in 1702! Check out their website for the detailed history of the tavern owners through the years.

Best Things To Do In Rhode Island

The first of the thirteen colonies to declare its independence from Great Britain in 1776, Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the United States but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in character, culture and clams. Home to over 400 miles of coastline, several grand mansions and some unusual culinary treats, Rhode Island should be firmly rooted on any travelers to visit list. Here are 25 reasons why:

Stroll Along The Famous Cliff Walk

The Newport Cliff Walk was designated as a National Recreation Trail in 1975 and is one of the most popular things to do while visiting. The trail is 3.5 miles one way and follows the coast from Memorial Boulevard to Bellevue Avenue. You will get beautiful panoramic ocean views, wildflowers, and views of the beautiful Newport Mansions along the way. Its completely free and there are five sections, so you dont have to complete the entire 3.5-mile stretch at one time.

For an easier stroll, visit the northern half of the walk where the path is paved and sticks to pretty flat terrain. The southern half does have some rough trails and youll need to be a little more careful for this portion. The section from Belmont Beach to Ledge Road is not best for anyone with a fear of heights as it gets close to the cliffs but offers some incredible views. There is no wrong way to enjoy this trail, so just make sure its on your list.
