Even if youre squeamish about snakes, dont let that keep you from checking out Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo. Sure, it used to be called just Snake Farm, and had, well, mainly just snakes, but it has since expanded to include a truly fascinating variety of animalssome native to Texas and some notthe likes of which you cant even find at the San Antonio Zoo! During the recent expansion of Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo, new, natural-looking habitats and a diverse collection of reptiles and mammals are part of the exhibit, making this a must-stop while visiting New Braunfels.
Update: Animal World and Snake Farm Zoo offer enhanced cleaning of high traffic areas and hand sanitation stations throughout. They currently have limited attendance and all guests, ages 10+ are required to wear masks indoors.
New Braunfels Conservation Society
The New Braunfels Conservation Society is a 3.5-acre complex dedicated to preserving the unique history and way of life of the early settlers to the area. Eighteen historic buildings, including a bed and breakfast, saloon, schoolhouse, barber shop, and music studio, tell the story of life in New Braunfels since its founding in 1845.
Tours are offered Tuesday through Friday from 9:30am 11:30 am and from 1:00pm- 2:30pm. Weekend tours are available from 1:00pm -2:30pm. The complex can also be rented out for weddings, parties, or retreats by contacting the Conservation Society office.

Spring Break 2021 In New Braunfels: The Top 10 Best Kid Activities
Spring Break is upon us! After the year weve had, many of us are itching to get out of the house. While a big, family vacation might not be in the cards yet, consider a day trip to a nearby town. New Braunfels is about 30 minutes away from most parts of San Antonio and can feel like a real getaway for the whole family.
New Braunfels is best known for Wurstfest, Schlitterbahn, and the historic community of Gruene, but there are many hidden gems in the town that keep families traveling to New Braunfels year-round.
Im a New Braunfels local, so I took to social media and crowd-sourced with my local New Braunfels parents to get ideas on what their current favorite local kid activities are for all ages. New Braunfels is close enough that you could do one of these activities, then head back to San Antonio, calling it a successful trip. Or, if youre feeling more ambitious, you could do several of these activities in a day. Better yet, if youre looking for a getaway, stay overnight in New Braunfels and make the very most out of your time in my beautiful town!
As with most places these days, COVID protocol is in place in New Braunfels. Masks are required for those ages 10 and older at all indoor locations and everyone is encouraged to maintain social distancing guidelines. *Due to recent changes to state mandates, be sure to check with each location before going.*

Stars And Stripes Drive In
This was my kids favorite activity in New Braunfels. I hadnt been to a drive in movie since I was younger than they are and this was truly a treat.
The weather in Texas is mild enough to where sitting outside to watch the movie is possible a good part of the year, so bring lawn chairs to sit in or pillows, blankets and an air mattress if you have a truck. If its colder you can sit in the your car but we enjoyed sitting outside.
Its not a movie without popcorn! You can bring your own treat in but theres an on-site cafe/snack bar that has every type of movie snack you could want.
You can bring your own coolers and food in but theres also an onsite snack bar with traditional drive in movie food, like popcorn and hotdogs, as well as some other offerings if you need a full meal.

Drive The Scenic River Road
The scenic River Road in New Braunfels connects the city to Canyon Lake. The road is a little over 10 miles and has amazing scenery. We recommend keeping your camera out and enjoying the stunning views as you make the drive.
Visitors can enjoy the many attractions located along the road like restaurants, cafes, and watersports companies. This is also a great place to stay in New Braunfels. The road looks very pretty in the fall when the trees along the Riverbanks change color.
Enjoy The Wineries In Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg, another gem in the Texas Hill Country, is located just 90 miles away from New Braunfels. This beautiful German town has striking architecture and a host of tasting rooms on Main Street. This is definitely one of the best places in Texas to go wine tasting. You can also go boutique shopping and antiquing in the city.

Ride The Waves At Schlitterbahn

Landa Park is the park of New Braunfels. You can spend a full day enjoying all the activities: have a picnic, ride a paddle boat, play at the playground, go swimming, walk a nature trail and even get in a round of miniature golf. My favorite part? The super fun train that chugs around the 51 acre park. We spent a lot of time here during the summer, especially because of the Aquatic Center.

Landa Park is the park of New Braunfels. Everyone Ive met so far speaks very highly of it, and after doing some research I can see why. You can hike, ride a paddle boat, relax at the playground, go swimming, walk a nature trail and even get in a round of miniature golf. My favorite part? Im looking forward to the train that chugs around the 51 acre park. I know BabyCoolJ will be stoked, too!

Water 2 Wineis a boutique winery that serves wines made in New Braunfels the grapes come from various places but the small-batch wine making process takes place on site.
This is a kid-friendly winery and they offer sandwiches and small plates. You wont see their menu online its a new addition but theyve got a good selection of sandwiches and salads as well as cheese plates and hummus.

Canyon Lake New Braunfels Tx
About half way between Austin and San Antonio and less than 14 miles from New Braunfels, Canyon Lake is one of the deepest lakes in Texas. It is popular with fishermen, boaters, and everyone who likes spending a hot summer day on the water. The lake is located on the Guadalupe River and offers 80 miles of scenic shoreline.
Five communities are located around the lake, and you can also find a busy marina and two yacht clubs. Eight public parks, managed by The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offer picnicking areas, boat ramps, and camping. Below Canyon Dam, you can go tubing down the Guadalupe River. You can also explore the Canyon Lake Gorge with 100 million years old fossils and dinosaur tracks.

New Braunfels is located in Central Texas near San Antonio. This charming Texan small town has German heritage and is known for its scenic beauty. The citys rich heritage has also made it a cultural destination in the Lone Star State.
The city has an interesting history. New Braunfels was founded in 1845. It wasnt settled by just anyone but by the German Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels along the banks of the Dry Comal Creek.
Braunfels means brown rock in German. The city is named after Braunfels in Germany. Several buildings from the 19th century are excellently preserved in New Braunfels.
Fun fact: Did you know that the New Braunfels newspaper is called Herald Zeitung? This was originally two newspapers till 1967: the Herald in English and Zeitung in German!
It is located at the confluence of the Guadalupe and Comal River. The city has beautiful big urban parks and hiking trails. Outdoor activities like tubing on the rivers, kayaking, and camping are really popular here. Sunsets in New Braunfels along the river are also spectacular.

Enjoy A Sweet Wine At Winery On The Gruene
If you want a great spot off the beaten path in New Braunfels then visit the Winery on the Gruene. Its laid back atmosphere and inviting decor is a treat. They have a great selection of sweet wines, dry not so much.
This is also a great spot for people watching in the historic district. The tasting room is also kid friendly and great to visit after a day spent tubing on the river.

The New Braunfels Railroad Museum
Explore the history of the railroad in Texas at the The New Braunfels Railroad Museum. The members of the NBHRMS have restored the International & Great Northern, Missouri Pacific, and Union Pacific depot building into a museum that is open to the public free of charge.
Exhibits include a restored Pullman dining car, a 1950 caboose, and various historic train artifacts and displays. Visitors can even take the controls and drive model trains around large displays. The museum also offers train shows, kids fun days, and a library of approximately 600 railroad-related books.

Faust Street Bridge New Braunfels Texas
The Faust Street Bridge has been a New Braunfels landmark for over 100 years. This Whipple truss bridge was constructed over the Guadalupe River in Comal County in 1887. The bridge was one of the first toll-free passages across a waterway in Texas, as most bridges at the time were privately owned and operated.
The bridge was also one of the first multi-span Whipple truss bridges, and it is one of the few left in the state. The Faust Street Bridge originally carried horse-drawn carriages and wagons across the river before it started transporting automobiles. In 1978, a fire damaged the bridge, and it was closed to traffic. Today, the bridge is open to bicycles and pedestrians.
