Kayaking Near Mount Dora
Another thing I love about Mount Dora is the abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities in the region.
A favorite short kayak paddle is the nearby Dora Canal. Its only a one-mile canal linking Lake Dora and Lake Eustis, but some think its one of the most beautiful miles youll ever experience. Heres more about paddling the Dora Canal.
If youre not into kayaking, there are several mororized boat tours on Lake Dora that include the Mount Dora canal.

Renningers is an open-air flea market covering over 100 acres! There are a few of them around the country, but the Mount Dora location is a special treat. Its also home to special events like antique fairs, swap meets, vintage garden shows, and more. Traveling with your four-legged friend? Renningers is pet friendly as long as your dog is on a leash!

Stroll Along The Boardwalk
The boardwalk takes you through the Palm Island Preserve with ancient trees draped in Spanish moss.
If you peer down into the water, you may see a predatory gator or two in search of its next snack. Anhingas hang out on the boardwalk railings to dry their wings, so keep an eye out you may be able to get up close for the perfect picture.

There are dozens of places to eat in Downtown Mount Dora but Id put the Windsor Rose Tea Room in a list of things to do even though you can certainly dine here. It is an experience all its own.
Visiting as a couple? Stop in for The Windsor: Freshly-baked scones with cream and strawberry jam, Queen Victoria sponge cake, assorted finger sandwiches, homemade pastries and tea for two.
Bringing the kids? Youre still welcome here. Add a Mad Hatter Tea Party order to your ticket. Its just for kids and includes cheese & butter sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly finger sandwiches, a slice of Queen Victoria sponge cake, cookies, and their choice of hot chocolate or ice cold milk or lemonade.

- Renningers Antique Extravaganza. More than 800 antique dealers converge on Mount Dora for this big outdoor show. The admission price says it all: $10 on Friday, when you can scoop up the best stuff $6 Saturday and then $4 Sunday. The event is repeated three times a year, the third weekend of November, January and February.
- The Annual Arts Festival spreads out throughout the downtown, attracting 285 artists and thousands of visitors. As of mid-January, this festival is still scheduled.
- This gated event with a $10 admission ticket features Scottish bands and musicians all the weekend at Donnelly Park. and an afternoon of Highland Games in Gilbert Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. ot 5 p.m. Details.
- . Renningers Antique Extravaganza returns for a second winter weekend, with the same abundance of antiques and curiosities, dealers and customers. That weekend is also the Mount Dora Music Festival.

Palm Island Park Boardwalk
Visitors who cluster around the main business district might miss it, but if you keep walking along the lake beyond the Lakeside Inn and the marina, you will eventually reach lovely Palm Island Park with a quarter-mile-long boardwalk that offers views over Lake Dora, curtains of Spanish moss hanging from the lakeside cypress trees and good opportunities to spot birds and gators.
From the park, youll see a 35-foot-high red-and-white lighthouse along the lakefront and youll probably assume its historic. Nope its cute, but it was built in 1988.

For more than 35 years, Mount Dora has hosted an annual craft fair with over 400 exhibitors from around the country, its grown into one of the states largest.
The fair takes place downtown and includes handcrafted items that you just wont find elsewhere. Many visitors choose to stock up and save many of the items they buy as birthday and Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.

Old Joe The Alligator
A 15-foot bronze alligator along the lakefront pathway near the Palm Island Boardwalk commemorates the largest, fiercest alligator in the lake at the turn of the 20th Century, when he was a highlight on boat tours.
Today, Old Joe is a popular photo opportunity on whose back kids love to sit. I also love that a large and very much alive alligator, perhaps Joes descendent, was in residence daily on the pier at the Lakeside Inn during our November, 2021, visit. The pier is closed because of hurricane damage, so guests can admire him from a safe distance.
