10 Reasons why you should move to Leesburg, VA!

Wine isnt the only beverage that Middleburg does well! Cider, craft brews, coffee, and smoothies await you in Middleburg.

Stop by Old Ox Brewery for a delicious craft brew. They have a regular rotation of seasonal beers. Ask for 4 ounce pours to create your own flight of awesome brews.

Mount Defiance Cidery & Distillery has two locations in Middleburg. In historic downtown, the cozy tasting room gives you a personalized tasting experience of high-quality spirits. On the east side of town, the barn offers a more energic crowd ready to sample all the ciders. I recommend you visit both locations to enjoy each experience!

Lets not forget about the delicious caffeinated beverages! In the mornings, youll find people heading to Common Grounds. There you can sample their incredible coffees and breakfast foods.

If youre craving some fresh juices or a smoothie, then Greenheart Juice Shop is calling your name. While youre there, pick up some of the fantastic granola.

Try A New Outdoor Activity

Even if you dont ride a horse when youre in Middleburg, youll be able to enjoy other adrenaline-pumping activities. Empower Adventures offers treetop zip-lining and rappelling, for instance. Since I like to keep my feet firmly on the ground, I skipped those, but I broke out of my comfort zone to try axe throwing and archery. Although I wasnt sure about those sharp-sounding activities at first, with expert instruction in a very large, outdoor, remote area, I was surprised how many times I was able to hit the target. A bonus? It was a hit with everyone in my multigenerational travel group. Oh, and now Im ready for the zombie apocalypse!

Enjoy Fine Dining At The Goodstone Inn

The gorgeous Goodstone Inn, a hotel and gourmet restaurant, is about a ten-minute drive from the National Sporting Library. They have an outdoor pool for guests and stone walls surrounding the property.

But the best thing about the Goodstone Inn is the restaurant. Its one of the few places in the area that offers a prix fixe menu, and the food is absolutely amazing . If youre looking for a special night out, this is the place to go.

The Salamander Resort And Spa

Although Ive lived in and explored around Washington, D.C., I had no idea there was a resort as luxe and large as The Salamander until recently, when I was looking for a pandemic-friendly getaway. Middleburg is just off the beaten path enough that this sprawling property with stables, pools, a destination spa, and gourmet restaurants has managed to stay under the radar. As I headed up the meandering drive, it truly felt like I had traveled much farther than an hour from D.C.

The plush rooms all have balconies overlooking the sprawling grounds. The gas fireplace and freestanding deep soaking tub in the marble bathroom made me feel like I was on vacation before I even explored the resort. Theres also a large fireplace in the high-ceilinged library lounge, the perfect spot to cozy up with an after-dinner drink.

Since I visited in the early spring, I wasnt able to use the outdoor pool, but I was able to take a dip in an indoor one. Theres a destination spa here, too, with outdoor heated soaking pools. Hiking and biking are great ways to explore the property and the surrounding area. My family rented bikes and peddled past the tennis and basketball courts to the palatial stables to meet local celebrity pony Cupcake. The pony makes appearances at weekend-evening happy hours we missed her star turn, but we did get to enjoy the fire pits and smore-making under the stars, an evening activity I highly recommend for the full vacation experience.
