Ride The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel
The Melbourne Star Wheel is the city’s very own observation wheel and taking a ride on it is another wonderful way to see the city from above. The views are incredible during the day and even more magical during the night as you watch Melbourne City Centre lit up below you.

Go To The Green Gables And Learn Its History
Along the scenic Indian River, you’ll find a house that was built in the gorgeous and elegant Queen Anne style called the Green Gables.
It was built in 1896 by William and Nora Wells as a winter home and as the place where they would permanently retire.
The place was the first home in the entirety of Melbourne to have electricity, and the original site stretched across 150 acres of land.
Nowadays, the place is a historical site that everyone who visits Melbourne must see.
The sight of it will really give you a glimpse of the culture and history of this wonderful city.
Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria
Another one of the nice places to go with kids Melbourne offers is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Located in Melbourne CBD is the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria which spans over 94 acres and is home to over 8,500 species of native and exotic plants.
Various activities are available within the gardens, including a guided tour of the Wurundjeri peoples land where you taste Indigenous food straight from the garden on the Aboriginal Heritage Walk. You can experience a traditional punt on the Ornamental Lake or take a scenic drive on the Garden Explorer bus. The kids will also love the Childrens Gardens which have plant tunnels to crawl through, rocks to climb over and a bamboo forest for hiding in.
During the Summer months, a trip to the Moonlight Cinema is great for families, where you can watch a movie under the stars. There are numerous activities for young and old at the gardens.
Within the gardens are also two cafes, so its the perfect spot to grab a coffee or have some morning tea.

Yarra River Sunset Kayak Tour

Brevard County may not be the most well-known area in the state, but there is no shortage of fun things to do in Melbourne, Florida. For locals, I hope this guide helped you find something new to do in your town! For those on vacation, I recommend spending some time at the beach and doing at least a couple of nature or active activities on this list. I also urge you to spend some time at night in either Downtown Melbourne or EGAD and check out the restaurants and bars there! Here are a few other things to keep in mind for your time in Melbourne.
- The best time to visit Melbourne, Florida is November through May. The summers are very hot and you risk having to deal with a hurricane in the early fall.
- There is an airport here that Delta, American Airlines, and a few others fly out of. I prefer to fly to Orlando airport and make the hour-long drive because the prices are better.
- If you are visiting the area, I highly recommend renting a car. Its a large area, and though you can use Lyft/Uber, a rental car is probably cheaper
- There is not a lot of nightlife here, besides Downtown Melbourne. Its much more of a relaxing town! You can find live music at a lot of bars though.
- If you are looking for a hotel, my favorite hotel is Hotel Melby. It is right in the center of downtown and close to all the best things to do in Melbourne, Florida

Want more free childrens activities Melbourne CBD has? Then within Federation Square, check out the ACMI. This is a free museum showcasing Australiaâs film, TV, video games, digital culture, and art.
This is another one of the free and fun things to do in Melbourne CBD with the kids. I found it quite interesting to show Myla how I use to watch TV when I was a kid. I had to explain to Myla that back in my day, you had to get up off the couch to change the TV channel and yes, TVâs really were that small! It was cool seeing all the old school video games we use to play and how far technology has come in a relatively short time frame.
Throughout the year, the ACMI hosts various exhibitions. While we were there, we went to the Wallace and Gromit and Friends: The Magic of Aardman exhibition. This was a great exhibition learning about how the fantastic Aardman Studios make Claymation. We got to meet Shaun the Sheep and see the various movie and TV sets. We even had a go at making our own Claymation film.
The centre is located within Federation Square, the epicentre for whats on Melbourne, and is an exciting way to spend an hour or so. Its one of the free fun activities for kids Melbourne has to offer.
