Weather Crowds & Prices For September
article continued below
Hawaii Weather in September
Although September brings an end to summer, Hawaiian temperatures continue to soar with average daytime temperatures in the mid to high 80s. Your evenings are just as summery, staying well within the comfortable 70s range.
You will find cooler temperatures during the day and night when visiting mountainous areas and volcanoes. The higher you travel, the lower the temperatures, so grab a jacket before you head for the hills.
If you plan to spend a lot of time on the beach, September and October have bragging rights for the warmest ocean temperatures of the year.
Fall means Hawaii will be heading into rainy season soon, but September is still one of the drier months. That means there will be very few rainy days to dampen your spirits. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to rain. Drier weather is always a good thing when traveling, but the drier climate of the summer can tend to impact the glorious waterfalls of the area. You can still visit these popular sites, but keep in mind, less rain tends to slow the cascades.
Despite the drier weather, August and September are at the peak of hurricane season in the Pacific. Hawaii has a low risk for hurricanes, but it is still something to think about when booking your vacation.

You can purchase all of these activities when you get to Maui, or you can reserve them in advance. The advantages of advance purchases are
- You get exactly the activities and companies and dates and times you prefer
- You wont miss anything because it may be sold out when you arrive
- You can shop for activities at your leisure from home
- You wont waste any of your vacation time going around to sales booths and talking to activity salespeople
- Some activities have reserved seats, so the farther ahead you reserve, the better your seat
If you decide to research and/or purchase your activities from home in advance, I suggest using the links to each activity that you will find on the above listed pages. First click on the activity you want from the above list, then click on individual vendors that you are considering on the bottom half of the page you will get to about that activity.
None of the Maui discount activities on this website use timeshare presentations to give you their discounted prices. I strongly recommend that you AVOID any company that requires you to attend a timeshare sales presentation, no matter how big a discount they offer you on any activity.

Snorkel Trip To Molokini
You know the saying, When in Rome, do as the Romans do? Well, when on Maui, do as the Mauians do and go snorkeling at Molokini Crater. This is another must-do activity and one that your family and friends will endlessly thank you.
The Island of Maui is home to one of the few volcanic islets in the world, the Molokini Crater. Located under 3 miles away from the South Maui shoreline, this Marine Life Conservation District is one of the most popular places to snorkel in Hawaii. When it comes to snorkeling in Maui, Molokini should not be missed. When snorkeling at Molokini Crater, guests can expect to say a huge array of Mauis marine life, including marine animals and plentiful schools of tropical fish. Its quite common to see Manta Rays, Hawaiian green sea turtles, over 100 types of algae, 35 species of coral, Yellow Tang, Parrotfish, Morrish Idols, Raccoon Butterfly Fish and so much more.
Since Molokini is a mini volcanic caldera island, there is no sand surrounding this snorkel site. That means that the ocean clarity is the best it can possibly be for underwater visibility . Guests can visit Molokini on both morning and afternoon Maui snorkel tours. Make sure to book this Maui activity for your next trip to the Valley Isle!

Iao Valley State Monument
Iao Valley lies west of Wailuku. Traditionally, Hawaiians would undertake pilgrimages to such places in honor of their gods. Today, several well-maintained paths lead from the parking area to this beautiful valley. It is a popular place to visit, however tourists should be aware that parts of the park may be closed due to flooding and other weather-related hazards.
In the middle of the valley stands Iao Needle, a pointed lump of basalt, reaching 2,215 feet above sea level. This unique overgrown rock was apparently used as an altar in prehistoric times. A legend surrounds Iao Needle’s origin. It is said that the demi-god Maui took captive an unwanted suitor, the water sprite Puukamoua, of his beautiful daughter, Iao, and wanted to kill him. But Pele, the fire goddess, ordered Maui to turn him to stone. Hence the needle.
The valley is said to be full of the ghosts of Hawaiian gods, known as manas. On the left-hand side of the path to Iao Needle is Pali Ele’ele, a dark black cliff.

Give Underwater Scooter Diving A Go
Is swimming too taxing for you? Feeling lazy? Then youll probably love the idea of scooting around underwater, hands-free, on a scooter diving trip. Yep, thats an underwater-scooter!!! Be whisked along and see the sights beneath the waves without barely having to do a thing yourself. Its great!
You can do it right from the shore, which is pretty cool you dont have to go off in a boat. Options for sites where you can go scooter diving are Keawakapu Outer Reef, the Wreck of the St. Anthony and the Landing Craft and the Tank. A surprisingly fun thing to do in Maui. Best Place To Stay In Maui
There are 5 main areas to choose from for your base here: South Maui, West Maui, along the Road to Hana , Central Maui or upcountry. See map below.Best vacation rentals in Lahaina
The best way to find the perfect spot for snorkeling is to ask your local dive shop if youre renting gear. They understand weather and wind patterns on the island and can offer great advice with free maps since conditions change. A great snorkeling spot one day may not be so hot the next day.
After beach time, head to one of the Wailea resorts for a sunset cocktail. The Four Seasons is magical here. The Grand Wailea Maui or Andaz Maui Wailea Resort also make wonderful choices.
I also love the 5 Palms in Kihei. We watched whales breech just outside the window!
Monkeypod Kitchen makes a delicious spot for dinner and also serves inventive cocktails.

Weather Crowds & Prices For August
Summer in Hawaii can get hot, hot, hot. With the kids out of school, this is a favorite vacation spot and period for families. Of course, it is also the wedding season in North America, so this island paradise is also appealing to honeymooners. If you are considering a visit to Hawaii in August here is an overview of what you can expect.
Hawaii Weather in August
Temperatures soar in the heart of the Hawaiian summer. If you love the heat, August is perfect for your travels with temperatures averaging the high 80s. At night, you will avoid the cooler evenings of the winter and spring, which can dip into the 60s. Instead, August evenings remain balmy in the 70s. That makes it perfect for evening strolls, luaus, and other outdoor activities.
If your activities and sightseeing take you to higher ground, the higher you go, the colder the temperatures. Trips to the many mountains and volcanoes of Hawaii usually require a jacket and pants. One more word of warning: August and September are hurricane season in the Pacific. Although hurricanes are rare in Hawaii, it is better to know all the facts before you commit to a date.
