Take In Views Galore By Walking The Queensboro Bridge To The Roosevelt Island Tram
I finally conquered my #1 NYC bucket list item:
Riding the Roosevelt Island Tram. From Long Island City you can do the scenic walk over the Queensboro Bridge offering incredible views of the Manhattan skyline from Queens!
Youll snag vistas of the East River, One World Trade Center, the Empire State Building, and the Chrysler Building are visible across the bridge.
When you exit on the Manhattan side, you can enter the tram with a subway swipe.
Try to go in last so you can get close to the window .
This way youll get to really take in the aerial views.
Roosevelt Island itself has walking and cycling paths along the water, so you can take pictures under the Queensboro Bridge and get the Long Island City skyline, too.
This is definitely one of the top things to do in Long Island City if you love taking photos!
Learn The Art Of The Cocktail At Dutch Kills
Talk about great Long Island City places to visit!
Dutch Kills is a craft cocktail bar started by Richard Boccato and Sasha Petraske of Milk + Honey fame.
Here they serve the types of drinks that are $15+ in Manhattan for $14 each.
Since I was tired I ordered one of their hot coffee drinks laced with banana liqueur and creamy whipped cream topping.
For my second drink I went for the bartenders choice, simply giving them a few keywords about my preferred flavor profile.
From there, he mixed and muddled away to create a refreshing spicy mezcal drink with a frothy top.
For those who love cheap things to do in NYC, Dutch Kills offers a phenomenal happy hour:
$8 select cocktails from Sunday through Friday, 5-7pm.
Remember, these arent quick well drinks theyre drinkable works of art.

Get Active At The Cliffs At Lic
For those who think you cant rock climb in NYC, the Cliffs at LIC will prove you wrong.
My boyfriend climbs at this indoor rock gym and Ive gone with him before.
In fact, he actually rescued a wounded kitten in their parking lot, who is now our sweet little furball, aptly named Cliff.
As you can see, I share a certain affinity for this spot.
Its enormous with tons of route options, and there are auto belays if youre traveling solo.
Also check their fitness class schedule for yoga, Pilates and AcroYoga.
Afterward head to John Brown Smokehouse, a popular food spot for climbers after a workout.

Stroll Around The Gantry Plaza State Park
One of the most popular things to do in Long Island City in Queens is to experience Gantry Plaza State Park. Its a small park compared to the infamous Central Park in Manhattan, but it has everything one could ask for. The park is a popular meeting place for all ages and offers breathtaking views of Manhattan across the East River. Youll be able to see the United Nations HQ and Roosevelt island as well. Here youll find courts, cafes and even a dog park. Luxury apartments have also claimed their spot here.
The 39-acre park covers a total of 4 piers and features preserved bridge cranes and a huge Pepsi Cola sign. The park is named after the gantry cranes fixated on the piers.

Have An Offbeat Brunch At Queens Comfort
This is the only place I dont mind waiting for a table, as the host comes out and tells dirty jokes to the crowd before taking the stage for his freestyle 3pm rap.
The venue is decked out with McDonalds Happy Meal toys and other chachkies, while retro movies show against the wall and a DJ plays upbeat music at the perfect volume.
Whether you like it or not you WILL find yourself singing karaoke.
Get one of their atypical Benedicts I suggest the Hobbits Salty Pork featuring bacon, fig jam, and brie or a Capn Crunch-crusted chicken sandwich.

Gary’s knowledge of history and movies of New York was great conversation for the tour and Boris was a perfect gentleman helping ma get in and out of the SUV.

The Shops At Columbus Circle
The Shops at Columbus Circle is a classic NYC indoor mall thatll keep you warm in the winter if you need a break from sightseeing near Lincoln Center and cool in summer if youve been running around Central Park. My honest truth is that Ill walk through the Shops at Columbus Circle to warm up or cool down, while also maybe hitting the Whole Foods in the basement level to pick up a snack or a juice.
One of the main attractions in this shopping mall are the huge Botero statues! To see more about Botero and his works, see our rather unrelated walking tour of Medellin, Colombia.
Indoor Activities In Astoria And Lic
Bring a first-timer to PS 1 and nonchalantly “discover” the art in the basement’s old furnace room or get Avante Garde at the Chocolate Factory Theater alternatively, you can warm up and dance your heart out at WarmUp or dance at a Greek nightclub in Astoria.
Get a little culture and forget about Broadway by catching a performance at the Secret Theatre or the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center or find your way behind the scenes at the Museum of the Moving Image, one of the best museums in NYC. Other museums include the serene Noguchi Museum.
Get Turkish or Greek food or iced coffee with ice made from coffee in Sunnyside or challenge your family to compare cannoli from Italian bakeries throughout Astoria. For a special adventure, go find out what Anthony Bourdain of “No Reservations” found in Little Cairo at the Kabab Cafe.
