Things To Do In Little Rock This Weekend

Visit A Replica Of The Us Capitol

Hiked to six stunning alpine Lakes at Little Lakes Valley Trail in the Eastern Sierra

While youre in Little Rock, dont miss the chance to visit a complete replica of the U.S. Capitol building. The Arkansas State Capitol building was designed to look exactly like the real thing in Washington D.C. So much so, its even been used in movies.

Visitors can take a guided or self-guided tour. Both options are free.

How Many Days Should You Spend In Little Rock

Honestly, the city is completely overlooked! Between great outdoor day trip options like Pinnacle Mountain State Park and the Buffalo National River , you can easily fill up a long weekend in Little Rock and the surrounding area.

So if you can only spend 2 days in Little Rock, we understand. But if you have 3 days or 4 days in Little Rock, thats even better!

Walk Around The River Market District

The River Market Districtis one place that you cant miss when visiting for a weekend in Little Rock. The River Market is indoors and opens year-round with a number of small shops, food stalls, and tables selling local goods. This is a great place to get something for lunch and eat at a variety of locally-owned food stalls. Outside of the building, there is an area for live music, movie showings, and expos which are common to find nightly in the late spring-early fall.

If the weather is nice, I recommend walking along the Arkansas River Trail which is beautifully set by the Arkansas River and has a number of parks, bridges, art installments, and other scenic viewing spaces.

Sample Little Rock Cheese Dip

When I said cheese dip is what brought me to Little Rock to start with, you may have wondered why cheese dip? Because Little Rock is THE birthplace of cheese dip. Legend has it that cheese dip served with chips, was made in 1935 by Blackie Donnelly and served in his restaurant in North Little Rock. Whether you choose to believe, or not, is up to you but there has to be something to it. Little Rock definitely knows about cheese dip and has plenty of it.

To celebrate, Little Rock holds the World Championship of Cheese Dip every fall. Chefs, both professional and amateur, compete for the honor of best cheese dip. Its a big deal in Little Rock! The 2019 competition had 23 different kinds and volunteers packed 15k bags of chips for attendees.

As far as restaurants go, cheese dip can be found in more than just Mexican restaurants. It seems everyone has some connection to cheese dip and their own spin on it. A couple of my favorite places are Heights Taco & Tamale Co. and Red Door.

Taste Pastries At A 74 Year Old Bakery

Dubai’s Most Beautiful Hike – Wadi Bih, Hatta

My great grandmother was a baker so I get my love of baked goods from her. For sure, no one has ever had to force me into a bakery. Community Bakery is exactly the kind of bakery I love. Old school with a touch of modern, sunny and airy just in case I want to work while Im there. Fair warning, your head might explode trying to pick something out heres so many choices.

Community Bakery specializes in European desserts and pastries but has plenty of classics and southern goodies. After looking at everything, I finally decided on my favorite donut, a chocolate iced, a couple of petit fours and one of their specialties, a sausage roll. A roll is what I had after eating all that! Just joking. I didnt eat it all at once. And If I did, Im not telling.

When Is The Best Time To Visit Little Rock Arkansas

Let me start by stating that we planned our road trip around the South in May for a reason to avoid the high summer heat.

We ended up in Little Rock at the very beginning of May. And it was hot! But not as hot as it would have been if wed waited until July or August for our trip.

Ive also been during spring break in March, and I loved the weather this time of year .

The best months to visit Arkansas are April, May, September, and October. You will still get warm weather , but youll get the best weather for sightseeing.

Best Breweries In Little Rock Arkansas

Okay, so now you know where to eat in Little Rock, lets talk about drinking. We were pleasantly surprised to see that Little Rock has quite the microbrewery scene , and we were here for it! Here are some tasty brews you need to try if youre visiting Little Rock.

This brewery is known for its food menu as well as being a creator of amazing beer. I ordered the Blackberry Bramble Fruit Beer, which had a berry, citrus taste that I loved to sip on during a warm, spring day. Chris had the Squirrel Sailor Hazy IPA, which was also fresh and delicious.

This place is small but mighty. Experimenting with all kinds of flavors, we tried the Pear Guava Biere de Gras as well as the Byzantium Imperial IPA. The Pear Guava beer was easy to drink and those flavors combined perfectly! The Byzantium was certainly flavorful but strong as well! Definitely only have one of those!

Okay, this isnt a brewery, but it definitely needed to be included in the drinking section. This distillery is the first one in Arkansas post-prohibition. And with products like whiskey, vodka, bourbon, and gin, it definitely is worth a stop on your Little Rock itinerary. Take a tour and taste all that this little distillery has to offer.

Visit The Witt Stephens Jr Central Arkansas Nature Center

Nestled in the heart of the River Market District, the expansive nature center showcases the regions fish and wildlife through exhibits, trails and programs. Plus, a portion of the Arkansas River Trail crosses the site, offering more options for exploring.

Spending A Weekend In Little Rock A One

Not on my bucket list was the response received when asking my husband to come along with me for a weekend in Little Rock, to attend a conference. He had no intention of spending 1 day in Little Rock, let alone 3 days in Little Rock! So, off I went alone with a few extra days so I could discover what to do in Little Rock. After hitting the Little Rock must do sites, and then loads of other Little Rock attractions, I was pleasantly surprised by The Natural State. Little Rock is not the backward little southern town one might expect.

At first glance, Little Rock may appear to be a breeze-through town but dig deeper. Besides the must do Little Rock attractions such as Little Rock Central High School and the Clinton Library , downtown offers quaint little shops for exploring, walking paths, historical museums, and excellent restaurants.

Plus, much to my delight, Little Rock has quite a few craft breweries, and fun hangs. Dont be fooled by its Bible Belt location. The streets may appear rather sleepy Monday through Wednesday evenings but just pop inside any of the establishments mentioned for a delightfully good time. I thoroughly enjoyed my long weekend in Little Rock.

The Pantry Little Rock Arkansas

Weekend in Little Rock Itinerary (Where to stay, things to ...

When you have a Czech owner and chef, you can expect some great Central European dishes and superb beer. The Pantry offers both of these things in spades. The two large dining rooms, spacious bar, and outdoor patio are frequently packed, and patrons enjoying delights rarely tasted in Little Rock, including potato pancakes, bratwursts, cheese spaetzle, potato dumplings, goulash, red cabbage, sauerkraut, and apple strudel.

These dishes are all standard comfort food in Europe, no culinary revolution there, but the cuisine is carefully prepared to create generous portions accompanied with great beer. The Pantry is a great place to visit with friends so that you can share dishes and try a bit of everything. The desserts are out of this world.
