Rock Town Distillery offers visitors to Little Rock a chance to sip award winning whiskey and gin. Owner Phil Brandons story of sheer determination to make great whiskey is almost as good as the alcohol itself. Hot Springs National Park
The biggest attraction in Hot Springs is of course, the national park, which includes part of the town as well. Fun fact: the Hot Springs Reservation became the first federal reservation in 1832 by President Andrew Jackson, making it what is considered to be Americas first national park . In town, youll find the famous Bathhouse Row , and the national parks visitor center is located inside of what was once Fordyce Bathhouse. Dont miss out on visiting the Fordyce, as you can tour the building for free and see what the bathhouse was really like for visitors back in the day. Make sure to go to every floor, as some of the more interesting rooms, like the gymnasium, are a bit tucked away!
Around the national park, youll find lots of trail options for hiking and biking, and scenic viewpoints you can drive to. If youre looking for the best viewpoint in Hot Springs National Park though, youll want to go up the Hot Springs Mountain Tower, where at the top you can see out over the city of Hot Springs and the Ouachita Mountains. Its especially magical in autumn when the trees are at peak fall foliage!

Old State House Museum
Another attraction spot you should add on your list of best things to do in Little Rock is the Old State House Museum, This Little Rock tourist attraction makes one of the things to see in Little Rock.
Old State House Museum is famous because it was the place where President Bill Clintons election night celebration in 1992 was held.
The old state house is the oldest state capitol building all through the west of the Mississippi River. As old as its name, it was built between 1833 to 1842.
The building was still in use till 1912 when a new capitol building was constructed. Today, it is recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
The items which are housed and displayed in the building include artifacts related to the history and culture of Arkansas.
Some of these items in the collection include the African-American quilts, Civil War battle flags, and Arkansas art pottery.

The Root Little Rock Arkansas
How did a small down-to-earth café with mismatched chairs located in the SoMa neighborhood become so popular? It has to be their food, which is as fresh as it can be, locally sourced, and bursting with juices and flavors. The Root serves comfort food with some exotic dishes like Vietnamese Banh mi sandwiches, and they cook to perfection.
They work with local farmers and food growers, as they firmly believe quality food starts with quality ingredients and the people who grow them. If something is not in season, you probably wont find it on the menu. Drinks are mostly non-alcoholic, and they are natural and fresh. They do offer a few local craft beers.

Visit Garvan Woodland Gardens
Located along Lake Hamilton, these 210 acres of gardens are the perfect getaway for a nature walk, and during the holidays, they do a holiday trail of lights at night that is a great night out for families and brings in thousands of visitors. The highlight of the gardens though, in my opinion, is the beautiful Anthony Chapel, a glass and wood chapel that makes you feel like youre outdoors while indoors. If youre getting married anytime soon, you might want to consider this gorgeous chapel as your future wedding venue!

Educate Yourself At Central High School National Historic Site
One of the top things to do in Little Rock and one of the most important historic sites in the country is Central High School National Historic site. This site is the epicenter of Little Rocks 1957 school desegregation crisis and a must see when visiting Little Rock.
Visitors can reserve a ranger led tour of the school, which is still an operating high school. If you prefer a self guided tour then start with the visitor center for interpretive information and photos. Visit the nearby gas station where reporters called in their stories during the crisis and tour the memorials that educate and remind us that weve come a long way but still have work to do.

Become Educated On The Events At Little Rock Central High School
Little Rock Central High School is the only operating high school in the nation that is also a designated National Historic Site, by far one of the most important in Little Rock and the state.
On the morning of September 4, 1957, nine Black students were blocked from entering Little Rock Central High School by the National Guard per the order of Governor Faubus despite Brown vs. Board of Education ruling that school segregation was unconstitutional. Governor Faubus then removed the guard but the students were met with violent protests.
Due to the reaction received, President Eisenhower backed the Supreme Courts authority and sent in the U.S. Armys 101st Airborne Division to safely escort the students into the school.
Little Rock Central High School Historic site commemorates the bravery of Jefferson Thomas, Ernest Green, Thelma Mothershed, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Carlotta Walls, Melba Pattillo, Terrence Roberts, and Gloria Ray, who are often referred to as the Little Rock Nine. Despite facing extreme resistance, they pushed forward in their attempts to desegregate Little Rock Central High School.
This is such an important place to visit in Little Rock and its crucial to remember that while sometimes it seems as though many things have changed we still have so much work to do to ensure justice for ALL.

How We Spent Our Day In Little Rock
For an early dinner, we came back to Little Rock and hit up Haybird Chicken Co., where we tried their Birdwich chicken sandwich on a steamed bun, and it was to die for. One of the best things I ate on the whole trip! For dessert, we hit up Loblolly Creamery, where I tried their ice cream flight of 8 different flavors, including ones like Arkansas Mud, Peanut Butter, and Pumpkin Spiced Latte. We also had time the next morning to eat breakfast in Little Rock before we drove to Hot Springs, so we stopped by The Root Café, which had come highly recommended by several locals we talked to.
See below for my recommendations of where to eat, what to do, and where to stay in Little Rock to build your own itinerary!

The Tesla Theater is where you can witness the Guinness World Record musical bi-polar Tesla coil! The coil creates 200,000 volts of electricity at a frequency high enough you can see it. During the show, museum staff can play well-known songs on the device.
One of our favorite places in the Museum of Discovery was the Tinkering Studio where they have different activities available each week. When we visited they had a workshop where you could deconstruct electronics including camera lenses, printers, keyboards, computers, and DVD players. Logan has always wanted to see the laser inside a DVD player since he was a kid so naturally, he had to spend about 30 minutes taking it apart!
