“I love a good Renaissance Festival and this year I got to check out the Colorado offering. Overall, I really enjoyed the festival this summer. The landscape was really cool, and the permanent building fixtures made it feel like I was really back in the renaissance days. The food was cash only, but was fairly priced. A wine for $5.50? Yes, please! My favorite thing about these festivals are the Scotch Eggs, and this one did not disappoint. Although I really enjoyed the day, because of the elephants and camels in small, fenced off areas, what would have been four stars is three. Not a fan of that. Why Larkspur Appeals

Larkspur offers traditional suburban neighborhoods with old-growth pine trees. It feels pretty secluded and gives people that feeling of privacy that might be lacking in more traditional neighborhoods, Hiller says.

With little new construction, demand for the few existing homes is driving prices up, she says.

While there are homes in the $600,000 range, the average price for a home in Larkspur is $900,000.

Larkspur was the only community outside Jefferson County to make Zillows list of the top 10 metro Denver markets. Zillow, a Seattle-based real estate search engine, studied 50 cities and neighborhoods in metro Denver to measure home value change between June 30 and June 30, 2020.

A desire for more space drove many home purchases during the pandemic, and Larkspur sales were no exception, Hiller says.

Larkspur appeals to people who are working remotely. Some commute to Denver or Colorado Springs, but now they can work in the office a couple of days a week and then work the other days remotely.

Most of the houses for sale in Larkspur need to be updated, Hiller says. Many homes were built in the 70s, 80s, and 90s and need updates, Hiller says. But the need for repairs or updates isnt slowing sales.

For a long time, Larkspur has been a sleepy town with a sleepy market, Hiller says. Now its caught up with the other metro areas, and properties are getting snatched up in a weekend.
