Acadiana Center For The Arts
ACA is an art gallery and performance venue downtown. If you get a chance to attend a concert or any performing arts event at ACA you should jump at that opportunity!
Not a bad seat in the house but they do regularly change up the seating depending on the type of event.
When I attended Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys for their Christmas concert it was all assigned seating. Then I lucked out and got a ticket to Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit concert and all the lower level seats were removed to make it one big happy standing room only setup. Other events feature table seating throughout.
Events regularly sellout so check the calendar and get tickets here for music, dance, and theatrical happenings at ACA.
Now, the art gallery is cool as well because first of all its FREE to attend. They also stay open late for Art Walk each month, more on that below.
ACA Gallery showcases Louisiana talent and the gallery is not one of those monstrous size places that you can never see everything. Go and see the art at ACA Gallery for 30 minutes to an hour.

Visit The Acadian Village
Located on 32-acres off Greenleaf Drive, this Lafayette attraction mimics an 1800s Cajun village complete with a blacksmith shop.
Out of the villages 11 buildings, seven are authentic 19th-century homes displaying the early Acadian homebuilders ingenuity.
This can be seen in the homes wooden pegs, hand-hewn cypress timbers, mud walls, and high-peaked roofs.
The Acadian Village came about through the efforts of the Lafayette Association for Retarded Citizens .
The design team of the LARC Acadian Village had to fashion a shaded community out of a10-acre farmland.
For authenticity, a bayou runs through the re-created Acadian Village, which is also now hosting special events, such as weddings, showers, and birthday parties.
In so doing, the Acadian Village not only preserves a Louisiana heritage but also helps attract visitors to Lafayette and enliven the community.

The Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist is the official name and its an attractive piece of architecture. And you dont need to attend mass to go visit the church, they offer tours at St Johns.
Whether you do want to go to mass or take a tour get more info from the Cathedral website.
The other reason to visit the Cathedral is the giant old oak tree. St Johns Cathedral Oak is estimated to be nearly 500 years old.
Cathedral of St John the Evangelist completed in 1916 in Lafayette Louisiana
This tree is Second Vice-President and a founding member of the Live Oak Society. You read that right, the tree is the VP and founding member. Are you curious to find out how that could be? Check out this excellent website called the 100 Oaks Project for more info.
Cathedral Oak is a beautiful old oak tree, probably one of the most beautiful live oak tress Ive ever seen. I do love the Big Tree down in Rockport Texas too but I have to say Cathedral Oak is more handsome, and should be considering hes 500 years younger.

Shop In Downtown Lafayette
I spent my last morning in Lafayette trawling the shops in the Downtown area, stopping for a caffeine hit at Rêve Coffee Roasters, which has a surprisingly hipster edge that seems incongruent with the city itself.
I was pleased to find some hidden gems on the high street , including Genterie, which feels like a homegrown Urban Outfitters, and indie music store Lagniappe Records. Take home some Swamp Pop on new or used vinyl as a souvenir of your trip.
If youre shopping for gifts, Parish Ink is a good choice. They print t-shirts focused on their South Louisiana roots that express the cultural nuances of the area. I keep wishing Id bought the Mais Bruh shirt or how about one stating, I wanna be loved bayou?
You can also catch Lafayette Farmers Market at Moncus Park on Saturdays.
