See Antique Engines At The Volunteer Firemen’s Hall & Museum

Who doesn’t want to visit a fire station? The bright red engines, shiny brass bells, and firemen’s poles are exciting to see no matter how old you are. And they can all be found in the Volunteer Firemen’s Hall & Museum.

Housed in the historic Wiltwyck Fire Station, this fun museum is packed with firefighting-related relics from Ulster County. Inside, you’ll find an engine dating to the 1930s, another used until the 60s, an original fireman’s pole, sleeping quarters, and a lounge, all showcasing important memorabilia.

Admission to the museum is free, although donations are greatly appreciated, as they help to preserve the museum. It is open Fridays and Saturdays from April through November, and Wednesdays through Saturdays from June through Labor Day.

We didnt have time to enjoy the spa services at the Emerson Resort & Spa, but we are so doing this when we go back!

We spent our Friday night in the Hudson Valley checking out this Ulster County resort, and it was a total dream.

I love that theres a delicious restaurant located conveniently inside the hotel , but I was already pretty much sold as soon as I saw the jacuzzi in our bathroom

Seriously, yall need to spend some time here and take advantage of the resort lifestyle if you can.

They even offer fitness classes which, combined with the spa treatments, make this resort a top choice for a Catskills bachelorette party.

As someone whos lived in New York for her entire life, its quite shocking to me that Ive never made a trip up to the Catskill Mountains until now.

Located just a few hours outside the city, the area makes for an incredibly convenient weekend getaway.

Not to mention, theres an overwhelming number of things to do in the Hudson Valley, including an ongoing list of Insta-worthy brunch spots, scenic trails, eclectic shopping destinations, and more.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ulster County for the weekend, and I have to say that I could not have been more impressed.

Our little weekend trip was jam packed and flew by, so today Im sharing a few of the highlights that I absolutely recommend in planning your own Hudson Valley getaway.

Activities Near Me: The Den Of Marbletown

The Den of Marbletown is a museum by day and a cozy bed and breakfast by night. How To Get Here

Kingston is one and a half hours north of the George Washington Bridge, Exit 19 on the NYS Thruway. Trailways runs frequent buses from Port Authority to a station Uptown, or you can take the Metro North at Grand Central to Poughkeepsie or Amtrak from Penn Station to Rhinecliff , and then take a taxi or rideshare. Though its not essential, it is helpful to have a car or anticipate relying upon local taxies, Uber or Lyft. The walk from Uptown to the Rondout can be as long as 50 minutes, so youll definitely want wheels to see all of Kingston.

Places To Visit: Kingston Uptown Historic District

The Kingston Uptown Historic District, also known as the Kingston Stockade District, is a unique region of the city that celebrates, preserves, and promotes the history and heritage of Kingston. Spanning eight blocks in the western section of the city and commonly referred to as Uptown Kingston, the Kingston Uptown Historic District is the original site of the mid-17th-century Dutch settlement of Wiltwyck, which was later renamed Kingston when it passed into British control.

The district features many buildings that have been designated as National Historic Landmarks and Historic Places, including the Old Dutch Church, founded in 1659 as the First Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Kingston, the Kirkland Hotel, a rare example of a wood-frame central hotel, and the century-old stone Senate House. Visitors can enjoy guided walking tours of the district and explore the treasury of centuries-old architecture in the heart of the original stockaded village of Kingston.

Catch A Ride At The Trolley Museum Of New York

All aboard the historic trolley! Enjoying the 1.5-mile journey organized by the Trolley Museum of New York is one of the best things to do in Kingston. Passengers board at T.R. Gallo Park, which lies at the foot of Broadway, next to the Hudson River Maritime Museum in the East Strand district.

Stops include the picturesque Kingston Point Park and the museum itself, which is set on the original site of the Ulster and Delaware Railroad yards at Mile Post One. Here, you’ll take a trip through the history of transportation in the Hudson River Valley and see vintage trolleys and subway cars built in the US and Europe. A visitor center has permanent and seasonal exhibits and huge windows that showcase the restoration shop featuring eight trolley cars.

The museum is open from noon to 5pm on weekends and holidays from late April through October.
