The Hershey Story Museum
Quite possibly the sweetest museum you could ever visit. Its definitely one of my favorites. Hershey makes history fun and delicious with interactive exhibits and activities. Weve tasted chocolate around the world. We took on the role of a factory worker. Weve engaged in an epic indoor snowball fight and weve cashed in tokens to see how Hershey dollars make a difference. Indian Echo Caverns Aka Echo Dell
Theres more to Hershey than just chocolate and Indian Echo caverns is another excellent example. Having been to Luray Caverns in Virginia before we werent sure how different this experience would be. But heres how it was different and why we loved it Echo Caverns are smaller than Lurray and the tour guides control the lights inside the caves making it more adventurous.
Give yourself about an hour for the guided tour inside the cave. Our 15-year-old tour guide was a funny and confident lady. The caves are always a cool 52°F, another great reason to visit on a hot sunny day.
Entrance Fee: $18.50 for adults and $12 for kids. The cavern is open all year round.
Outside the ticket office, there is a picnic area and even a mini-farm animals petting area. We saw Billy goats, turkey, and peacocks.

One way we get the most out of our travels is through long weekend getaways. Living on the East Coast, there are dozens of destinations within a few hours of our home. For my birthday, we spent a long weekend exploring all the fun things to do in Hershey, PA. This is far more than the capital of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a chocolate factoryits a region that is transforming from large scale manufacturing to small scale entrepreneurship, while providing fun activities for all ages.
Just 90 minutes from our house, Hershey-Harrisburg made the perfect weekend getaway for my birthday. In the past, we only thought about this town as home to the chocolate factory and an amusement park, but there is so much more available. Here are a few of our favorites.

A Sweet Weekend Getaway To Hershey Pa

Are you a fan of chocolate? How about charming small cities? Perhaps you enjoy stories about entrepreneurs who overcame adversity and left an almost unparalleled philanthropic legacy? If any of that appeals to you, then Hershey, Pennsylvania should absolutely be on your travel list. There are lots of great things to do in Hershey, PA for young and old, and it makes an excellent weekend getaway!
In late summer, with the COVID-19 pandemic at a point where we felt comfortable getting away for the weekend, M and I decided to take a short trip to Hershey. After doing some research, we felt confident that we could enjoy ourselves responsibly, and we were excited to check out a bed and breakfast that had come highly recommended by friends of ours who had visited a couple of years earlier. The best part, however, was that my parents were willing to meet us in Hershey to pick up E for a couple of days of grandparent time, leaving M and me blissfully kid-free.
If the pandemic has taught us anything, though, its that you can always find something fun and novel if you look hard enough. That was certainly the case for us! M and I had a great weekend taking it easy in the Sweetest Place on Earth and found lots of things to do in Hershey that were new to us. Plus, because wed already hit most of the major attractions on previous visits, we didnt feel a need to rush around or check anything off our lists. We could simply enjoy spending quality, kid-free time together.

Hersheypark Rainy Day Policy
Remember that if the weather is really bad while youre in Hersheypark, the park may give you a rain check ticket to use on another day! So be on the lookout and ask an employee about rain vouchers if the weather is not letting up after a while.
The general policy, the one listed on their website, regarding rainy days at Hersheypark is listed below.
While our goal is to have all attractions available during scheduled operating hours, weather conditions like rain, lightning, wind, snow, and certain temperatures can temporarily cause attractions to close. Hersheypark® remains open during inclement weather conditions and offers a variety of indoor activities including entertainment shows, dining options, shopping, game arcades, exhibits at ZooAmerica, as well as rides under cover while you wait for the weather to clear.
Hersheypark makes every effort to reopen the rides and attractions as quickly and safely as possible after the inclement weather conditions cease. In the event the inclement weather conditions cause the majority of major rides and attractions to close for a continuous 60 minutes on a public operating day, a Return Visit Voucher may be issued for a return visit for the current operating season. Please present your ticket stub or receipt of purchase to any Guest Services location or Hospitality Services to receive your Return Visit Voucher .
Tips For Visiting Hersheys Chocolate World
- Chocolate World is free to enter, and there is no cost to take the Chocolate Tour. While in non-COVID times the line to take the tour ride can seem daunting, it moves quickly because the ride is in continuous motion. Use caution when walking across the moving floor to and from your little vehicle, and dont forget to grab your sweet treat at the end!
- As of the time of writing, free timed tickets are required to enter Hersheys Chocolate World to control crowd size.
- The gift shop is actually really nice and often has products on sale you cant find anywhere else. For example, my mom always grabs tins of their hot chocolate mix because its the only place shes ever seen it.
- Similarly, when fully operational the food court area has a nice variety of offerings that make for a good lunch stop Plus, youre in the perfect place to indulge in a little dessert!

Cocoa Kayak Rentals Of Hershey
Cocoa Kayaks of Hershey
Cocoa Kayak Rentals of Hershey is technically outside of town, but its so near and thematic that theyre worth the short trip if youre in Pennsylvania.
Its a good way to take a break from the general chocolate-focus of the town and have a little time for relaxation, just to yourself.
Swatara Creek is a lovely little waterway that curves on the edge of the township, providing optimal locations and waters for kayaking.
Thats why Cocoa Kayak Rentals saw the opportunity to set up shop here, offering boat rentals to those who want a little time to just hang out on the calm creek.
Reasonably priced and fun, theres a reason that Cocoa Kayak Rentals of Hershey has become one of few favored tourist attractions.
Kids aged 10 and above can ride their own kayak, while those aged 6 and above can simply ride in tandem with an adult.

Segway Tour In Hershey Pa
Have you ever ridden a Segway? Look easy, sounds fun. But when it comes right down to it, its actually pretty frightening.
Just behind The Hotel Hershey, you can book a Segway tour of the hotel grounds. That sounds pretty sedate until you realize that its freezing and there are HILLS!
Luckily, the Segway tour starts with a half hour training session to acclimate you to the equipment. Apparently, I followed the exact pattern of most people that take the tour: nervous, hesitant, cautious, confident, and then cocky.
I thought Id spend 10 minutes and say thank you very much. But by the time we got going, I didnt care about the temperatures and even ventured off road . I might have even looked up the cost of buying my own Segway when the tour was over.
Yeah, I think Ill just stick to the occasional rental.

Hersheys Chocolate World Attraction
This is a totally different attraction than the Hershey Museum mentioned above. I realized everything starts to sound similar after a point so dont worry if you feel the same way. Hershey Chocolate attraction is in fact located right next to the Hershey amusement park and I wont be exaggerating if I said that your kids will probably never want to leave this place.
There is a FREE ride in Chocolate World that takes you through the chocolate manufacturing process. In addition to that, there is a 4-D show and a theatrical chocolate tasting experience as well which kids will love. There also is a make your own candy bar class here as well.
