Things To Do In Hershey Park

I Always Stay At The Hershey Lodge

The ULTIMATE Guide to Hersheypark

Hersheypark houses three official resorts: Hershey Lodge, The Hotel Hershey, and a camping retreat.

I’ve always enjoyed staying at the Hershey Lodge. Though the converted motor lodge has been upgraded throughout the years, it’s still cozy and now offers upscale amenities.

Adorned with welcoming nooks and fireplaces, the resort offers several dining options, including Fire & Grain, as well as an indoor water park.

I love to end the day with a chocolate martini at the bar and enjoy Hershey treats upon check-in.

Giant Center Hershey Pennsylvania

The Giant Center is a multi-purpose arena located on Hersheypark Drive in Hershey. With a seating capacity of 10,500, the center is the home of the Hershey Bears ice hockey team. The Hershey Bears became a member of the American Hockey League in 1938: this makes the Bears the longest existing member of the league.

In addition to hockey games, the arena hosts many other kinds of events. Cher opened the arena with a concert in 2002, and other performances have included American Idol Live, the Harlem Globetrotters, the WWEs Unforgiven, and many more. Concessions sell a variety of food during events including products made by the Hershey Chocolate Company.

Attending the ZooAmerica after-dark tour was such a fun and educational experience. If feeding bears grapes and otters fish is your thing then this is the place you need to be after dark. The prices are super affordable and kid-friendly, the staff give a great tour, and did I mention you get to hold some of the animals? I held an owl called Luna, she was such a beautiful owl and she weighed less than a feather.

If feeding Mountain Lions and wolves is your thing, make sure you check out my full review on the Early Bird Tours. Read more about what to expect from the Early Bird Tours at ZooAmerica HERE.

Themed Areas Of The Park

Hersheypark Tour – Hershey Pennsylvania Amusement Park – Ride Tour and Review

Hersheypark developed a number of themed areas, the first being Carousel Circle, Der Deitsch Platz, and Animal Garden in 1972, followed by Tower Plaza in 1975, Pioneer Frontier in 1985, Midway America in 1996, as well as The Boardwalk at Hersheypark in 2007. In 2014, Hersheypark merged several theme areas Tudor Square, Rhineland, Founder’s Circle and Music Box Way, became an area called Founder’s Way, while the coal mining region themed area Minetown was re-themed as Kissing Tower Hill. The themed areas had featured different music to each area, such as polka-style songs being played in Der Deitsch Platz and Carousel Circle, country music being played in the Pioneer Frontier themed area, the Beach Boys being played near Tidal Force and later in The Boardwalk, as well as Ragtime and jazz music being played in Midway America. However, the music was phased into being the same across the park, except in The Boardwalk and Pioneer Frontier. In the summer of 2020, Hersheypark opened a new themed area called Hershey’s Chocolatetown, which included a new entrance plaza, ice cream parlor, flagship retail store, and a Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster named Candymonium. This includes the first ever Starbucks inside the park.

The first ride the park purchased was a Herschell carousel in 1908. The most recent coaster added is Wildcat’s Revenge, a hybrid roller coaster made by Rocky Mountain Construction, which opens in 2023.

See The Founders Hall

The Milton Hershey School, one of the most prestigious schools in Hershey, was built by none other than Milton Hershey and his wife.

The school’s Founders Hall was built as a token of gratitude to him.

Hershey and his family contributed a lot to society and played a vital role in the community’s development.

The Founders Hall was just a way to repay the great family for all they’ve done.

Chocolate is incorporated in both sweet and savory dishes served at the park.

From cocoa-barbecue wings to the Yuengling Hershey’s Chocolate Porter, even those without a sweet tooth can find something to enjoy.

Some of my favorite dishes include Hershey’s dark chocolate s’mores fondue from Fire & Grain and Hershey’s house short-rib flatbread from The Chocolatier.

On our most recent visit we stopped at Hershey Chocolatetown which is their newest shopping and dining area. Open year round guests can dine at The Chocolatier enjoying some chocolate inspired dishes.

The Chocolatier is inspired by the past and present of Hersheypark and you can see these pieces throughout the restaurant. I suggest making reservations before you arrive because it can get busy.

The Boardwalk At Hersheypark

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, a water park, was officially opened in 2007 and featured five new water park attractions along with three already standing rides: Roller Soaker, Tidal Force, and Canyon River Rapids. Canyon River Rapids and Tidal Force were rezoned from Pioneer Frontier to the Boardwalk. In 2009, the Boardwalk received an expansion known as the Seaquel which replaced Canyon River Rapids with Intercoastal Waterway , the Shore and cabanas. Roller Soaker was removed for the 2013 season however, the station was left up. That same year, the area was renovated and taken up by a kiddie spray ground and some tables. For the 2018 season, Hersheypark announced that two new water attractions would be in this area: Breaker’s Edge, a hydro-magnetic coaster slide that also counts as the park’s 14th coaster, and Whitecap Racer, the longest mat racer slide in the world which features two sets of twisting enclosed tubes. Breaker’s Edge uses the station that was formerly used by Roller Soaker.

Staying At The Hershey Lodge

The Hershey Lodge goes all-in with its chocolate theming. If the chocolate kisses on your pillow and cocoa-infused shampoo and conditioner dont delight you, surely the specialty desserts and chocolate martinis will.

The lobby welcomes you with cozy wood and stone décor, and the smell of chocolate is everywhere, which seems especially appropriate at Christmas time. Families gather around the fireplace in comfortable chairs, playing cards and eating treats.

Hersheys Kids Check-in is a unique feature where kids get to sign the Kids at Hershey Lodge guest book, participate in a Hersheys candy guessing game, and receive a chocolate surprise.

The rooms are tastefully decorated in what else chocolaty brown, gold, and burgundy. Our room had two queen beds, a lounge chair and a mini fridge in addition to the usual amenities.

Hershey is a small town thats easy to get around and Hershey Lodge is in a perfect location, just minutes from all the attractions. We could see the roller coasters from our room. One of the best guest perks is the free shuttle around town so you dont need to drive everywhere.

Is Hershey Park Worth It

YES!!!! We loved our time at Hershey Park with our toddler. He was just the right size for all the rides at 2.5 years old.

There were a few rides where he was barely below the line, and the operators let him ride. He did a great job waiting in line and on the rides.

Hershey Park was the first time he got on a ride by himself, and he hopped on without a second thought.

At last count, there are nearly 20 rides for toddlers, so there is so much to do with your little one.

The best part is the lines are manageable. We didnt wait more than 10 minutes to get on a kiddie ride, so if you have little ones between 2-4 years old, theyd love Hershey Park.

Another plus is the larger rides. Families with teenagers that love roller coasters, can go off and enjoy the bigger rides while you stay and ride with the little ones. Hershey Park is a win/win for every family.
