Where Is Greenport New York
Greenport Village, NY was settled in the 1600s by colonists from New Haven, Connecticut. The village is bordered by Long Islands Route 25 to the North, and the Peconic Bay to the south.
One of the easiest ways to get to Greenport is by sea. The Cross Sound Ferry operates from New London, CT to Orient Point, NY several times a day, with convenient scheduling! The trip only takes 80 minutes, and you can bring your car on board so you can explore all that Long Islands North Fork has to offer!
Insider Tip: to make the most of your trip, take an early ferry ride. Theres nothing like watching the sun rise from the outer dock of one of Cross Sound Ferrys large ships. The ship offers breakfast items, like coffee, breakfast pastries, and egg sandwiches to make sure youre fueled and ready for your day in Greenport!
If youre traveling from Upstate New York or New York City, simply take the Long Island Expressway to Route 25, and head east. Thats it! Route 25 will take you right down to Greenports Main Street.

Two days bracket the high season in Greenport, a centuries-old fishing village on the North Fork of Long Island: the last day of school, late in June, and Tumbleweed Tuesday, as shopkeepers and farm stand workers call the day after Labor Day. Spring, fall and the starkly beautiful winter offer their own pleasures on the lush vineyard-rich North Fork, but in summer that long spindle of land, and especially Greenport, with a population of about 2,000, bustles. The harbor fills with fishing boats, sails are hoisted, weekenders spill from train, ferries, cars and buses. The lures: local oysters, farm-to-table restaurants, wineries, country roads to stroll or bicycle along and water views all over the place.
Well-kept Victorian clapboards, gray-shingled saltboxes and white churches line Greenports streets plaques mark buildings and sites significant to the compact villages seaport history a schoolhouse, jail and blacksmiths shop among them. The snazzy Hamptons, with their beautiful ocean beaches, are only two short ferry rides south, but the laid-back, flip-flop vibe youll find in Greenport is a world away.

Claudios and Crabby Jerrys are located on two docks right in the center of town, where people in million-dollar speed boats and luxury runabout boats tie up to grab a drink.
Claudios has been a Greenport hot spot since the 1840s! We recommend a front row seat near the dock so you dont miss some of the best boat watching on the east end of Long Island. Although some of the boats can be very loud, so you probably wont miss them.
