Have Dinner & Listen To Good Music In The Phelps Barn
Whether you stay at the Inn or not, dinner at the Phelps Barn is a must. The Phelps Barn provides such a cozy atmosphere. There are big wooden tables and a roaring fire place. I am always blown away by that talent that they bring in for music. I could sit there all night sipping my favorite white wine sangria.

History Of Grafton Vermont

Graftons history is marked by an 1830s heyday, when the region bustled with woolen mills, gristmills, and factories producing sleighs, butter churns, and cheese. A waning wool market and devastating flood in 1869, however, led to a century of hardship. Relief eventually came with the formation of the Windham Foundation in 1963. The foundation is credited with bringing back Graftons small-town New England greatness through its preservation efforts, open-land stewardship, and financial support. Today the town is small and quiet but also thriving and its that combination that makes Grafton so special.

Map Of Grafton Vermont
There is so much to do in the picturesque village of Grafton, Vermont. What I love is that it is also the perfect place to do absolutely nothing. Just sit in a rocking chair on the front porch with a glass of wine. My kids could throw rocks in the river for hours. Grafton is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and just be with family.

Stroll The Village Trail

There is nothing I like more than simply strolling through the village with my dog. It is a small, walk-able village with lots to see. Our favorite route to take is down Main Street from the Grafton Inn to MKT. Walk to the back of the MKT parking lot and there will be a foot path connecting you to the community garden.
From there, pass Grafton Forge and let the kids burn off some steam at the playground. You will notice a dirt trail at the back corner of the playground that leads down to the fish pond. This is a favorite spot of ours.
Follow the foot path straight through the barn down to a bridge. The trail will lead to a covered bridge and end at Grafton Village Cheese. This is where I turn around and head back.
I usually walk Townshend Road back to see if the goats are out. You will end up back at the Grafton Inn. There is also a second covered bridge down Kidder Hill Road if you want to walk some more.

Stay At The Historic Grafton Inn
The Grafton Inn opened its doors in 1801 and has been welcoming guests ever since. It is a landmark in the center of the village. With individually appointed rooms, no two are alike.
James and I were married at the Inn in 2010 and came back several times a year. It is our favorite place to relax.
There are two restaurants at the Inn. Enjoy fine dining in the main dining room or walk over to the Phelps Barn for a more casual atmosphere.
A Winter Travel Guide To Grafton Vermont

After exchanging Christmas gifts, Dan and I decided to explore the cutest winter villages in New England. So far, we had shared our day trip to the Avon Village Marketplace and historic Old Wethersfield in Connecticut! Next on our agenda was a road trip outside of Connecticut to visit Grafton, Vermont, ranked as one of the prettiest winter villages in New England according to this list. Not to mention, one of my blogging friends, Emmy had been there too!
Their recommendations did not fall flat. Grafton was delightfully quaint. It was everything we were hoping for during our holiday break in December!
Since Grafton has a small population of 600 people, the town was nearly empty. I was able to take photos from the middle of the street with no fear! As someone who is scared of jaywalking and the bustle of city life, roaming around Grafton was the most calming experience I could ever have asked for.
We arrived in Grafton, Vermont just in time for lunch. Originally, we planned to eat at Maes Cafe, but once we arrived, Maes Cafe was no where to be found! In its place was an old gift shop called Mercantile. Normally, I wouldnt complain because antique shops are fun to explore but we were getting pretty hangry.
Luckily, Grafton is a tiny town. It took us just a minute to walk to the Grafton Village Store which has a sit-down café inside called MKT: Grafton.
