Located in downtown Galveston, Soundbar is a great place if you love karaoke – especially since they offer over 125,000 karaoke songs. The shows go on late, and the performances at the spacious karaoke bar boast a lively and energetic atmosphere every night. The drinks here are reasonably priced and the bar also offers incredible drink specials.

Spend Time At The Beach

The Galveston seawall is a whopping 10 miles long! There is parking and easy access to the sand and Gulf of Mexico at various points all along the seawall.

These are nice for a quick visit to the beach. However, the beaches on the eastern end of the island, particularly Stewart Beach and East Beach, have better facilities and are further from the noise of the seawall.

Both of those beaches have chair rentals, restrooms, concessions, and a playground. On Saturday in the summer, there are free sandcastle building lessons on Stewart Beach.

Additionally, Galveston Island State Park is toward the western end of the island, about 30 minutes from downtown Galveston.

It spans the the width of the island, offering access to both the Gulf and West Bay and a wide array of activities include fishing, hiking, biking, and birding. The gulf side of the park will emerge from extensive renovations in 2022.

If you have always been curious about the life on one of the drilling rigs, come and visit the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, an actual tried, tested, and retired jack-up drilling rig. Located about an hour from downtown Houston, the world’s oil capital, the museum is operated by the Offshore Energy Center and is located on Galveston’s Pier 19 just a block off The Strand.

You are welcome to roam free through the rig and take a self-guided tour through its three levels and see the drilling equipment and some fascinating exhibits and videos. One of the most interesting exhibits is Offshore Drilling: The Promise of Discover, which takes you behind the scenes and shows the real process of drilling for oil and gas offshore.

Once dubbed The Wall Street of the South,Galvestons Strand Historic District is rich in history and intrigue.

In its inception, Galveston, Texas was one of the richest cities in the world and the third richest city in the United States in comparison to its population. This can be seen throughout town, but especially in the Strand District.
