Visit Fountain Of Youth Archaeological Park

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is located on 15 scenic acres along the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine.

This park was the landing point of Ponce de Leon when he first arrived in 1513.

Though the park does not hold the key to life everlasting, it does offer an amazing glimpse into the past, when valorous explorers searched the world for the mythical spring that would make them live forever.

Unfortunately, those guys are all late, so its obvious they werent successful. However, this site is a must-visit for amateur historians.

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is privately owned and open every day. You can purchase tickets online or upon arrival, but children are allowed free entry at age five and below.

Flagler Beach Still Feeling The Effects Of Weekend Storms

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. â Flagler Beach is still feeling the effects of this weekendâs powerful storms.

What You Need To Know

  • Several walkovers were damaged in Flagler Beach by severe storms over the weekend
  • The affected walkovers have been roped off until they can be repaired
  • City officials say the wind is still to strong to send up a drone to get a better view of damage from the storms

Officials say whipping winds and high surf are still making it hard for city employees to assess and respond to damage.

Flagler Beach City Manager William Whitson had his eyes glued to the coastline this weekend as waves battered the shore.

âAnd they were breaking up over the dune line,â Whitson said, pointing near the Flagler Beach Pier. âThis is about exactly what I was expecting â in fact I think we dodged a little bit of a bulletâ

So far, Whitson said that they can see the storm caused some damage to a few beach walk overs, causing the city to rope them off. Because the winds are still so strong, city crews have not been able to send their drone up to asses more damage, but for the time being Whitson said it seems the south side took most of it.

âWe are very fortunate that we didnât take more damage, and we are following up making sure our assessments are correct before opening back up to normal,â said Whitson.

One issue they are keeping a close eye on is erosion, which is visible after this storm. For Flagler resident Stephen Wozniak, its a concern.

What To Do In Flagler Beach Florida With Kids

I hate to use this cliche, but Flagler Beach really is a hidden gem of a beach town. With its cinnamon-colored sand, laid back vibes, and seriously delicious restaurants, this beach should, by all rights, be an incredibly popular destination with families. The truth is, though, that Flagler Beach often gets overlooked as a vacation spot because itâs surrounded by St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, two very famous Florida cities which attract many visitors.

If your family is looking for a quiet spot to enjoy Floridaâs sun, sand, and ocean waves without the throngs of tourists, then Flagler Beach is the spot for you. However, thereâs actually so much more to do than just lay on the beach all day, which youâll need to know if youâre traveling with kids. As much as they love the beach, they do get restless. Also, if you have a toddler that eats sand or constantly runs toward the waves, youâll likely need a break, too.

Hereâs what to do in Flagler Beach with kids.

Things To Love About Flagler Beach Florida

by Jim & Betsi Hill

If youre looking to escape to a quiet beach town with a laid-back vibe, look no further than Flagler Beach. Tucked away on Floridas east coast, just over an hour south of Jacksonville and St. Augustine, this charming seaside town has managed to maintain a personality all its own, banning construction taller than three stories and managing to keep out many of the chain stores and restaurants that have overtaken mom and pop shops across the state. Its the perfect place to kick back, relax, and spend a few days making memories in the sun on your next Florida beach getaway.

You can choose to stay on either side of the Intracoastal Waterway. Youll find many of the chain hotels youre used to on the west side, as well as slightly easier access to the highway, but finding accommodations beachside will make it much easier for you to get around and experience everything this little town is known for. This isnt Miami, so you wont find dozens of options to choose from instead, Flagler Beach is home to a small assortment of locally-owned hotels and motels, each with their own personality.
