Durham Bulls Athletic Park Durham Nc

The home to the Durham Bulls, Durham Bulls Athletic Park opened in 1995 in downtown Durham. It was expanded to fit 10,000 seats in 1998, when the Bulls started playing in the Triple-A International League.

The stadium was designed so that all fans can have a great view of the field in total comfort. A roof covers about 2,500 seats. All seats are extra wide with extra legroom, and most have cup holders. The ballpark, called the Blue Monster, has many similarities to Fenway Park the Green Monster.

The structures characteristics follow architecture of todays Durhams downtown and those of many old-time athletic parks. The park’s most famous feature is the Snorting Bull sculpture that stands above the park, and it was featured in the popular movie Bull Durham.

The Durham Bulls Athletic Park is one of the top things to do while you are visiting Durham. The ball park is home to the Durham Bulls minor league baseball team, and the fan game experience is unforgettable. Besides the game, the ballpark has unique eats beyond the typical hot dog fare and quirky ways to engage fans in the excitement.

Fun Things To Do In Durham North Carolina

Looking for the best things to do in Durham, North Carolina? Youve come to the right place.

I visited North Carolina several times before landing in Durham. I always associated the city with Duke University campus and, as such, made the mistake of assuming it was a college town.

Having gone to school in Florida, I figured Durham would be like Gainesville, where the campus itself is the main attraction.

I could not have been more wrong.

Sure, a lot of attractions are under the Duke umbrella, but I was surprised by the life of the city independent of the university. I found small businesses, shops and restaurants that were thriving. I appreciated the sense of local pride and community.

Most of all, I enjoyed how welcome and inclusive Durham felt. I visited during pride month and saw rainbow flags everywhere. I noticed statements on cafe boards like the future is feminine. It felt like a diverse city and safe for solo female travelers like myself.

In short, I highly recommend visiting Durham, North Carolina on a road trip or long weekend getaway. Here are some of the best things to do once you get there!

West Point On The Eno River

This park along the Eno River covers over 400 acres and has three historic buildings. Its the perfect combination of history and natural scenery.

There are five miles of nature trails that follow the river and some surrounding bluffs. Theres also an amphitheatre, fishing areas, rapids that are great for paddling, and picnic facilities.

The highlight of the park is West Point Mill. Once one of 32 mills along the river, it has been rebuilt on the site of what was the largest mill. At its height, it was the centre and heartbeat of a 300 family community. Its a working mill once again and you can buy products there at the shop.

Hike At Eno River State Park

Taste Carolina Gourmet Food Tour in Durham, NC | North Carolina Weekend | UNC-TV

While the urban center of Durham is expanding, the city maintains nearly 30 miles of trails and natural scenic areas at Eno River State Park. It is the go-to outdoor recreation area of Durham and a peaceful green space during lunchtime and on the weekends. The Eno River is a regular spot for locals and visitors looking for recreation options like hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and fishing.

The river flows by forests, bluffs, and a historic mill. There is a diverse number of wildflowers along the river, and if this is of particular interest to you, it is worth the effort to find Willie Duke’s Bluff on the lower Eno River. The 60-foot-high bluff is surrounded by many wildflowers, and it is one of the most picturesque spots along the river. If you find the time to include a little more outdoor adventure, try going for a hike at Cox Mountain.

Only Burger Durham North Carolina

We often want life to be simple. For example, sometimes all we want is a burger, but at the same time, we want that burger to be absolutely perfect. This intense desire for the perfect burger drove the owners of OnlyBurger to come up with such a tasty burger that they had to open two more shops to satisfy their happy customers. OnlyBurger started as a food truck serving burgers made of Certified Piedmontese beef free of hormones, antibiotic, and steroids they are freshly ground every day and served on a toasted bun.

Add fried green tomatoes and pimiento cheese and you end up with the burger that tops all burgers. When the customers got tired of chasing the truck all over Durham, the company opened two restaurants downtown. They also offer turkey and veggie burgers for those who prefer lighter fare.
